Applications include planetary entry/ascent vehicles where the hot shock layer gases thermally excite and dissociate and the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle(particularly control surfaces) can be different from the perfect gas case. Heat transfer at the vehicle surfaces depends on surface chemical behaviour such as catalycity and ablation, and these effects are catered for in the developed methods. 3, record 2, English, - catalycity

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
3, record 2, French, - catalycit%C3%A9

The freezing system uses a highly effective heat transfer technology for rapid crust-freezing of raw protein-laden products. A low temperature plate filled with recirculating refrigerant begins the freezing process immediately to set the product's shape. With a firm bottom surface, the product has enough integrity to be transferred to a spiral or tunnel freezer where it can be deep frozen to 0°F. Including investment and consumable costs, mechanical freezing can be as low as one-tenth the cost of comparable cryogenic crust-freezing systems. 2, record 4, English, - crust%20freezing

The "CASCADE" superCONTACT freezing tunnel (mechanical refrigeration) uses two thin conveyors (throw-away polyethylene film) enabling the individual Quick Freezing of food products, especially if they are wet, fatty or sticky and without any risk of the products sticking together. This new process enables ultra fast freezing in two stages: product surface crust freezing on film conveyors level N° 1, followed by deep core freezing on the lower level film conveyors. These film conveyors slide over refrigerated contact plates constructed for the recirculation of a mechanically refrigerated low temperature refrigerant. 3, record 4, English, - crust%20freezing

This region is known as the hydrodynamic, or velocity boundary layer. If there is a difference in the surface and flow temperatures, there will also develop a region in the fluid through which the temperature varies... in the outer flow... The term "Refractance Window" relates to the dryer's principle of operation. Water transmits infrared energy through conduction and evaporation but little radiation. If the water's surface is covered by a transparent medium such as plastic, evaporation and its associated heat loss is blocked and only conduction occurs. But when a moisture-laden material is placed on the plastic surface, a "window" for passage of infrared energy is created at the point where the material contacts the plastic where the plastic bears on the water. Therefore, all three methods of heat transfer, radiation, conduction and convection occur for exceptionally effective heat transfer. As the material dries, however, the infrared "window" is closed since moisture no longer contacts the plastic, and the only heat transfer taking place is by conduction. 1, record 14, English, - refractance%20window%20drying

Core project of International Geosphere-Biosphere Program. BAHC is an interdisciplinary project combining and integrating expertise from many disciplines, in particular eco-physiology, pedology, hydrology, and meteorology. BAHC in this respect has a transfer function : on the one hand developing techniques and algorithms to provide climatic data needed for hydroecological research, thereby translating the results of the World Climate Research Programme(WCRP) into the scales relevant for studies of changes of the conditions at the land surface, and on the other hand, providing soil-vegetation-atmosphere transfer at larger scales, in particular, the areal pattern of heat and moisture fluxes according to land-surface heterogeneity. BAHC concentrates on investigations at scales where detailed studies of hydroecological processes are feasible in selected areas representing major ecosystems of the world and across boundaries between different ecosystems(ecotones, biome boundaries, etc.). 2, record 19, English, - Biospheric%20Aspects%20of%20the%20Hydrological%20Cycle

The condensate that forms in the dryer cylinders is removed by a specially-designed syphon assembly.... at the high speeds of modern paper machines, the condensate layer has become so immobilized that even a very thin layer is a significant impediment to heat flow. Fortunately, the condensate layer still has some peripheral motion at high machine speed. This motion can be converted into a wave action by means of "dryer bars" attached axially to the interior surface of the dryer cylinder. This wave action(called "sloshing") greatly decreases the thermal resistance of the rimming condensate, and thus allows an increased rate of heat transfer. 1, record 27, English, - sloshing

Another remaining major barrier to heat transfer in steam cooking has been the condensate that normally forms on the food. Cleveland has overcome this problem with forced convection steam. The turbulent force of the steam literally strokes off the condensate, so the food surface is more accessible to the available heat energy. 1, record 29, English, - forced%2Dconvection%20steam
