Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Most energy sources on Earth are forms of indirect solar energy, although we usually don’t think of them in that way. Coal, oil and natural gas derive from ancient biological material which took its energy from the sun (via plant photosynthesis) millions of years ago. All the energy in wood and foodstuffs also comes from the sun. Movement of the wind (which causes waves at sea), and the evaporation of water to form rainfall which accumulates in rivers and lakes, are also powered by the sun. Therefore, hydroelectric power and wind and wave power are forms of indirect solar energy. Direct solar energy is what we usually mean when we speak of solar power - it is the use of sunlight for heating or generating electricity. 2, record 8, English, - solar%20energy

... electromagnetic spectrum... encompasses very short waves(cosmic rays) to light waves(ultraviolet, visible, and infrared) to very long(heat, radio waves, and AC electricity).... Our environment shows color because of the selective absorption and reflection : A leaf appears green because much of the blue and red in the sun light that illuminates the leaf have been absorbed. Absorption of radiation has many different effects on substances depending on the wavelength of the radiation. Very short wave radiation, such as X-rays and cosmic rays penetrate into the core of an atom and can cause ionization or even nuclear changes. 6, record 9, English, - short%2Dwave%20radiation

All objects whose temperatures are above absolute zero emit energy proportional to their temperature. This is called thermal energy. This energy is emitted in the form of electromagnetic radiation whose average wavelength is inversely proportional to the object’s temperature. Thus, the hot sun emits short-wave radiation which is mainly UV radiation and visible light; the cooler Earth and atmosphere emit long-wave radiation, which is mainly in the form of invisible light called infrared radiation. 7, record 9, English, - short%2Dwave%20radiation

Record number: 10, Textual support number: 1 CONT
When a polymer absorbs light, it may reradiate the absorbed energy at much longer wave lengths(heat), at slightly longer wave lengths(luminescence), or the energy may be transferred to another molecule. When none of these processes is operative, the absorbed light energy may cause bond breaking leading to degradation. By incorporating an ultraviolet absorbing compound into the plastic, it is possible to essentially eliminate all of the above processes, since the absorber even at concentrations as low as 0. 5% can effectively compete for the incident ultraviolet radiation, thus protecting the plastic form degradation. A second approach to stabilization is to incorporate an additive which, though not an absorber in itself, can accept energy from the polymer substrate, and thus, leave the polymer intact. Since protection of plastics against light degradation can be achieved by these two mechanisms, the broader term "ultraviolet stabilizer" or "light stabilizer" is used to refer to such additives. 1, record 10, English, - ultraviolet%20stabilizer

Shock/shock interaction flow field is mumerically simulated to calculate nonequilibrium heat flux distributions along a circular cylinder surface. In this simulation, the location at which a shock impinges the bow shock of a circular cylinder was varied to examine the effect of flow pattern on the heat flux at the body surface.... The results show that some types of interaction pattern with a supersonic jet can also be formed in nonequilibrium flow, and that the flowfield is crucially dependent on the impinging location of an incident oblique shock. Heat flux is calculated by changing impinging location of shock wave, because flow pattern is sensitive to those locations. 2, record 14, English, - shock%2Dshock%20interaction

The condensate that forms in the dryer cylinders is removed by a specially-designed syphon assembly.... at the high speeds of modern paper machines, the condensate layer has become so immobilized that even a very thin layer is a significant impediment to heat flow. Fortunately, the condensate layer still has some peripheral motion at high machine speed. This motion can be converted into a wave action by means of "dryer bars" attached axially to the interior surface of the dryer cylinder. This wave action(called "sloshing") greatly decreases the thermal resistance of the rimming condensate, and thus allows an increased rate of heat transfer. 1, record 16, English, - sloshing

The higher scale energy of the polymer can be transferred to the quencher by adding energy quencher.
