Deposit of ice crystals in the form of scales, needles, feathers and fans and which forms on objects in the same manner as dew, except that the water vapour of the air is transformed directly into ice crystals.

Hoarfrost [is] a deposit of interlocking ice crystals formed by direct sublimation on objects, usually those of small diameter freely exposed to the air, such as tree branches, plant stems and leaf edges, wires, and poles. Also, frost may form on the skin of an aircraft when a cold aircraft flies into warm and moist air or when it passes through air that is supersaturated with water vapor. Hoarfrost is formed similarly to the way dew is formed except that the temperature of the frosted object must be below freezing. Frost forms when air with a dew point below freezing is brought to saturation by cooling. In addition to its formation on freely exposed objects(air hoar), hoarfrost also forms inside unheated buildings and vehicles, in caves, in crevasses(crevasse hoar), on snow surfaces(surface hoar), and in air spaces within snow, especially below a snow crust(depth hoar). Hoarfrost is more fluffy and feathery than rime, which in turn is lighter than glaze. Hoarfrost is designated light or heavy(frost) depending upon the amount and uniformity of deposition.

Aerofall Mill. The aerofall autogenous and semi-autogenous air swept mills are additional solutions for dry grinding. These mills are typically very large in diameter and very short in length achieving high throughput. The material is lifted to great heights using lifter bars and dropped with forceful impact onto itself in the mill. The mill system would include separators and cyclones downstream from the mill to return rejected material to the mill, if needed. The aerofall mill is good for grinding abrasive materials with high moisture content and large feed size.

Quarried material is taken by conveyor or trucks to the processing plant where, if it is in rock form, it will be crushed to ensure that it is of a suitable size to pass by conveyor to the stockpile. From the stockpile it is fed, again by conveyor and a controlled amount of water to a rotating aerofall mill, which contains heavy metal liners, which help tumble the rock onto itself, crushing through various screens, spiral classifiers and washing tanks to remove unwanted impurities.

The Bruce Heavy Water Plant consists of two enriching units and one finishing unit. Each enriching unit consists of three stages of enrichment to concentrate the deuterium from 0. 14% to 30% at a rate of 1344 kg/hr(2964 lbs/hr).(...) Should the enriching units product concentration be as low as 30%, the finishing unit will be capable to effect the necessary concentration up to 99. 75%.

Preparation: In the preparation of [deuterium oxide] from natural water, advantage is taken of the differences in physical and chemical properties of the different isotopic species. (...) A method more suitable for natural water is one involving distillation. Since HDO and [deuterium oxide] have lower vapor pressures than [water], they can be separated from [water] by distillation. (...) Water distillation was used in three manhattan District heavy water plants, in which deuterium was concentrated from 0.0143 at % to about 90 at %.
