Le «Trésor de la langue française» signale l'emploi de «bordée» comme régionalisme dans le sens d'une «grosse quantité de». Il relève la tournure «quelques bordées de grêlons» dans la «Chronique des Pasquier», de Georges Duhamel (Le Désert de Bièvres), 1938, p. 31. Il souligne également l'emploi de «bordée de neige» dans «Le Survenant» de Germaine Guèvremont, 1945, p. 94. Le «Dictionnaire québécois français», de Lionel Meney, nous indique que «bordée» a signifié en Saintonge une grande quantité de pluie, de grêle, etc. Enfin, mentionnons que d'autres dictionnaires, français et québécois, attestent l'emploi canadien de «bordée de neige».

A transition zone in the atmosphere where an advancing cold air mass sandwiches a warm air mass between another cold air mass pushing the warm air into the upper atmosphere.

The problem was solved with the next significant concept of airport lighting-the principle of "controlled intensity". Controlled or engineered intensity means that runway lights having practical pinpoint sources, with the beam aimed in the direction of the incoming pilot, could have the intensity of this beam controlled by either shifting the beam axis or more generally by varying the brightness of the lamp. Thus, high candle power is available to "punch through" heavy weather, but it is subject to brightness control for visual comfort.
