The first major process in rebuilding a piano is disassembly, starting with the cabinet, then the strings, tuning pins, and finally the heavy cast-iron plate.... In a vertical [piano], first remove the front panels, upper pillars, lid, music shelf, fallboard, nameboard strip, keyslip, keyblocks, action, and keys. If you have a piano tilter..., move the piano far enough from the wall to tip it on its back. Stand the tilter up, center it behind the piano, and push it snugly against the back of the piano with the prongs under the bottom. With one assistant positioned in front to make sure the bottom can’t kick forward, tip the piano and tilter back together. Once the entire weight of the piano is on the tilter, your assistant can stop pushing the bottom of the piano toward the tilter. 1, record 4, English, - piano%20tilter

As an airfoil moves through the atmosphere in sustained flight, an area of high pressure is created beneath it and an area of low pressure is created above it. The air flowing from the high-pressure area to the low-pressure area around and about the tips of the airfoil tends to roll up into two rapidly rotating vortices, cylindrical in shape. These vortices are the predominant parts of aircraft wake turbulence and their rotational force is dependent upon the wing loading, gross weight, and speed of the generating aircraft. The vortices from medium to heavy aircraft can be of extremely high velocity and hazardous to smaller aircraft. 4, record 12, English, - wing%2Dtip%20vortex

Record number: 12, Textual support number: 1 OBS
5, record 12, French, - tourbillon%20en%20bout%20d%27aile

The idea of giving a weight to the particles, in proportion to their likely contribution to the result being sought. This should be associated with the Russian roulette consisting of “killing” particles whose weight is too low, with a probability that is proportional to the weight, and the “duplication” or “splitting” of particles that are too heavy. It can also be sometimes of interest to replace absorptions(capture and fission) by weight charges, without stopping the particles … 3, record 24, English, - splitting%20technique

… the optimization and quantification of particle splitting [is] a variance reduction technique that decreases the variance of a run, [sigma], or its relative error, R, while increasing its computational time, [tau]. This splitting technique is described in several papers, books, and reports. Geometry splitting associated with Russian roulette is one of the most widely used variance reduction techniques in Monte Carlo codes. When used effectively (i.e. splitting a volume in the right number of layers), this method causes a net increase in the figure of merit, FOM … [In a given example of splitting technique], an incident neutron n0 of weight W is split at the boundary crossing into two identical neutrons na and nb (same energy, direction) having half the weight of n0. Splitting.

1, record 34, French, - marteau

A ship that has experienced hogging is said to be hogged. Instead of showing a flat, level hull line, a hogged ship is "curved", with the bow and stern lower than the center of the ship. 3, record 46, English, - hogged%20ship
Record number: 46, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Hogging occurs because the bow and stern of the ship, while carrying a considerable amount of heavy equipment, possesses relatively little buoyancy. The center of the ship, on the other hand, possesses a great deal of buoyancy and may be quite light-weight if the ship is not loaded with heavy cargo or ballast. This unequal distribution of forces, with great weights but little buoyancy fore and aft, and little weight but great buoyancy amidships, leads to deformation of the hull. 3, record 46, English, - hogged%20ship

Finally, some SUVs and pickups are so large(greater than 8, 500 lbs. GVWR [gross vehicle weight rating]) that they do not qualify as "light trucks" under the current standards. These include the largest full-sized pickups and passenger vans, and larger models of the Ford Excursion and Chevrolet Suburban SUVs. However, EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] recently added the classification "medium-duty passenger vehicle" to include heavy passenger vehicles-passenger vans and SUVs up to 10, 000 GVWR starting in MY2004. Heavy pickups and cargo vans will not be affected, since their main function is transporting cargo, as opposed to passengers. Fabric Forms for Pile Jacketing.... All piles in a marine environment suffer deterioration at varying rates.... General Methods of Repair. The methods used for rehabilitation of piles are varied and constantly increasing in number.... In the 1960s a technique was developed that utilizes construction fabrics as a concrete-forming system. Basically this concept uses as a concrete from a jacket of woven nylon fabric, each end of which is connected by a heavy industrial zipper sewn onto the fabric. The ends of the fabric above and below the deterioriated pile zone are banded to the pile. These fabric forms have proven economic advantages over other concrete forming systems because of their light weight, ease of intallation, relatively low fabric cost, and ease of connection onto the piles at any location above the mudline. 3, record 60, English, - fabric%20form

Machine needles are selected according to weight and other fabric characteristics, as well as the thread type being used. In general, a needle should be fine enough to penetrate fabric without marring it, yet have a large enough eye that the thread does not fray or break. Needle sizes range from fine(size 9) for lightweight fabrics to heavy(size 18) for very heavy ones. 1, record 75, English, - machine%20needle

1, record 75, French, - aiguille%20%C3%A0%20machine

The weight of the skier(not the height) is the critical factor in achieving an effective stride. A light or weak-kicking skier on a stiff-cambered ski will merely slip helplessly like a dog on a newly waxed floor. That's why beginners should not buy super-stiff double-cambered skis. 1, record 76, French, - ski%20%C3%A0%20double%20cambrure
