Here we describe the existence of an hh-related gene family in the zebrafish. Brachydanio rerio. One of these genes, sonic hedgehog(shh) is expressed in the notochord, floor plate and posterior fin mesoderm tissues associated with polarizing activities in various vertebrate embryos.
