Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common conditions causing heel pain. It involves inflammation of the plantar fascia—a tough, fibrous band of tissue that runs along the sole of the foot. The plantar fascia attaches to the heel bone(calcaneus) and to the base of the toes. It helps support the arch of the foot and has an important role in normal foot mechanics during walking.

Plantar fasciitis is often an overuse injury primarily due to a repetitive strain causing micro-tears of the plantar fascia. Still, this condition can occur due to trauma or other multifactorial causes.

tarsus : In the first version of the Terminologia Anatomica, the designation "tarsus" inaccurately referred to the ankle. "Tarsus" actually refers to the area on the sole of the foot between the heel and the toes. The designation "talus" should be used in Latin to refer to both the ankle and the ankle bone.

tarsus : Dans la première version de la Terminologia Anatomica, la désignation «tarsus» était utilisée de manière impropre pour désigner la cheville. En effet, «tarsus» réfère plutôt à la région de la plante du pied située entre le talon et les orteils. La désignation à utiliser en latin serait plutôt «talus» qui désigne à la fois la cheville et l'os de la cheville.

Removed from side by making a straight cut perpendicular to outer skin surface at a point 50-60 mm(depending on hog size) anterior to the exposed aitch bone, just missing the juncture of the tail bone and aitch bone tip(approx. 3-6 mm). The hind foot is removed by making a straight cut through the hock joint to expose the heel bone. Tail is removed from the underside of the tail bone leaving a neat ham surface.
