Although they look similar when plotted on a weather chart, there is a distinct difference between isobars and isohypses. An isobar connects points of equal barometric pressure normalized to sea level while an isohypse connects points of equal geopotential height. Isohypses are also called height contours. 3, record 3, English, - isohypse
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Geopotential height approximates the actual height of a pressure surface above mean sea-level. Therefore, a geopotential height observation represents the height of the pressure surface on which the observation was taken. A line drawn on a weather map connecting points of equal height (in meters) is called a height contour. 4, record 3, English, - isohypse

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Unlike the STM, the AFM [Atomic Force Microscope] can scan nonconducting samples. It can do this because it uses optical technology, direct contact, and a laser, to sense the position of the tip in relation to the sample. The tip is very sharp and protrudes from a small flexible cantilever. The laser reflects off the top side of the tip and is directed to a split photodiode. The height of the surface of the sample deflects the cantilever causing the position of the laser on the photodiode to change. The difference in voltage from the photodiode elements provide a "picture" of the surface. 6, record 5, English, - atomic%20force%20microscope

Many Web sites... have charts labelled 500 hPa and Thickness. The latter is sometimes called Relative Topography. The thickness, or relative topography, is the difference in heights between the level at which the pressure is 1000 hPa and that at which it is 500 hPa. This difference in height is a measure of the volume of the air between those two levels. Because volume varies with temperature, the thickness of the layer is a good indicator of the average temperature of the layer. 6, record 13, English, - thickness

These optimum polarization states will be related to different independent scattering mechanisms that lead to the locally best height estimation. In case of buried mine detection, it is expected to find two coherence maxima : the mine and the surface clutter(or air-ground interface). After generating the two interferograms corresponding to these optimum polarization states, one can extract the height difference between them. The resulting height difference map will exhibit some peaks at those positions where the mines are buried, whereas it will remain close to zero at those zones of the image where only a single natural surface scattering process can be found. 3, record 15, English, - optimum%20polarization

The ability of the human eye and brain to interpret differences in the perspective of two images as depth is called the stereo effect. The three-dimensional stereo image is called a stereomodel. When looking vertically down at the landscape, one can perceive differences in the heights of features, which gives a three-dimensional view. The strength of this stereo effect depends on the magnitude of the difference, called the parallax, in the two views. The closer the objects are to the camera(i. e., the taller they are), the more different are their relative positions within the image and the closer we perceive them to be. By measuring the parallax and knowing the specifications of the camera and the flying height, the elevation of features in the image can be calculated. 6, record 17, English, - stereomodel

The curtain coater comes in two types :(1) pressure head and(2) gravity feed. The pressure head is essentially a V-shaped reservoir made airtight by a removable cover and fitted across the bottom with an adjustable gap. A variable-speed, positive-displacement pump sends adhesive into the reservoir. Spread control is determined by the width of the knife gap, the pump speed, and the viscosity of the glue... The gravity feed system is the forerunner of the pressure head. The application method is quite similar, with one important difference : the curtain velocity cannot be controlled. The curtain falls as a waterfall, the weight controlled by mass and height. 1, record 20, English, - curtain%20coater
