According to... the "Standard Proctor test"... a sample of soil is dried, pulverized and separated into two fractions by a no. 4 sieve. About 6 lb of the finer fraction are moistened with a small quantity of water and thoroughly mixed to produce a damp aggregate that is then packed, in three equal layers, into a cylindrical container of specified dimensions. Each layer is compacted by 25 blows of a standard tamper that is allowed to fall from a height of 1 ft. When the cylinder has been filled and struck off level at the top, the weight and the water content of the damp soil of the container are determined. By means of these quantities, the dry density can be computed. In a similar manner the dry density is determined for successively damper mixtures of the aggregate, until the dry density after compaction decreases conspicuously with increasing water content. A curve is plotted showing the relation between dry density and water content. 3, record 4, English, - standard%20Proctor%2Dtest

Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 OBS
7, record 6, French, - hauteur%20de%20pluie

The designer [of a show jumping course] can choose from a wide range of jumps that fall into three main categories : uprights, spreads, and triples. Uprights are jumps with the elements placed one above the other. An example is the post and rail, which has poles placed one above the other between two posts. This jump can generally be made higher or lower by adjusting the rests or cups on to the posts. A spread in an obstacle set up so that the horse has to jump both height and width. Spreads include the well-known water jump, the double oxer(two sets of uprights with a hedge sandwiched between), and the hog's back(three parallel rails, with the middle rail higher than the other two). The most common triple is the triple bars, which has three poles on separate supports. The poles are set [at] different heights, with the lowest one at the front. The jumps looks a bit like a staircase. Combinations are two or more jumps placed so close together that the horse can take only one or two strides between each one. Three jumps is the maximum in a combination. 4, record 9, English, - pole

3, record 9, French, - barre

Some water level recorders utilize a float on the surface of the water which is attached to a moveable gear in the recorder. A rise or fall of the water surface causes the float to rise or fall. This rotates the gear and the movement is recorded. Other water level gauges monitor either relative or absolute pressure at a point under the water surface. This pressure measurement can then be converted to height of the water surface. Still other water level recorders monitor the travel time of sound waves generated and received at a point above the water surface. This travel time can then be converted to the height of the water surface. 3, record 10, English, - water%2Dstage%20recorder

Fall streaks form when snowflakes and ice crystals fall from cirrus clouds. The change in wind with height and how quickly these ice crystals fall determine the shapes and sizes the fall streaks attain. Since ice crystals fall much more slowly than raindrops, fall streaks tend to be stretched out horizontally as well as vertically. Cirrus streaks may be nearly straight, shaped like a comma, or seemingly all tangled together. Similar to fall streaks is virga, which appears as streamers suspended in the air beneath the base of precipitating clouds. 4, record 12, English, - fall%20streak

Rammer test.... A test for investigating the resistance of a geotextile to puncturing by falling stones has been developed by the Bundesanstalt fur Wasserbau... in Germany. The geotextile is placed on a layer of compacted sand and kept in place by means of a 170 kg concrete ring. Three tests are carried out in the machine, cross and diagonal direction of the geotextile. Percement.
