A mesocyclone is a vortex of air, approximately 2 to 10 miles in diameter, within a convective storm. In a mesocyclone, air rises and rotates around a vertical axis, usually in the same direction as low pressure systems. They are most often associated with a localised low-pressure region within a severe thunderstorm. Such storms can feature strong surface winds and severe hail. Mesocyclones often occur together with updrafts in supercells, where tornadoes may form. Mesocyclones are believed to form when strong changes of wind speed and/or direction with height("wind shear") sets parts of the lower atmosphere spinning in invisible tube-like rolls. The convective updraft of a thunderstorm is then thought to draw up this spinning air, tilting the rolls’ orientation upward(from parallel to the ground to perpendicular) and causing the entire updraft to rotate as a vertical column.

At the heart of a space elevator would be a cable reaching up as far as 100, 000km from the surface of the Earth. The earthbound end would be tethered to a base station, probably somewhere in the middle of the Pacific ocean. The other end would be attached to an orbiting object in space acting as a counterweight, the momentum of which would keep the cable taut and allow vehicles to climb up and down it. A space elevator would make rockets redundant by granting cheaper access to space. At about a third of the way along the cable-36, 000 km from Earth-objects take a day to complete a full orbit. If the cable's centre of gravity remained at this height, the cable would remain vertical, as satellites placed at this height are geostationary, effectively hovering over the same spot on the ground. To build a space elevator such a geostationary satellite would be placed into orbit carrying the coiled-up cable. One weighted end of the cable would then be dropped back towards Earth, while the other would be unreeled off into space. Mechanical lifters could then climb up the cable from the ground, ferrying up satellites, space probes and eventually tourists. The biggest technical obstacle is finding a material strong but light enough to make the cable; this is where the carbon nanotubes come in. These are microscopically thin tubes of carbon that are as strong as diamonds but flexible enough to turn into fibre. In theory, a nanotube ribbon about one metre wide and as thin as paper could support a space elevator.

Ce système ne nécessiterait pas de maîtriser la fusion nucléaire. De simples batteries et panneaux solaires suffiront à alimenter l'ascenseur. La plupart des technologies nécessaires existent déjà ou existeront dans le court terme. Les prévisions actuelles prévoient un budget de 7 à 10 milliards sur 15 ans.

The heights of clouds are determined by several different methods, which may be roughly classed as estimation and measurement. The method of estimation is applicable in daylight and in bright moonlight. Under suitable light conditions an experienced and careful observer obtains very satisfactory results in determining cloud height in this manner. A visual estimation is made of the distance from the ground to the cloud base.

For projects using brick, make certain you have a brick trowel, brick chisel, mason's hammer, 4 ft. level, tape measure, pointing trowel, jointing tool, mason's line, wood line blocks and spirit level. The height and thickness of your walls are always important... Be sure to leave a space between bricks for your joint. This method is best to determine the spacing of your bricks. Then, drive a stake in the ground at both ends of your wall and stretch mason's line between them. The line will serve as a straight line guide and should mark the outside edge and top of your first course of bricks. Later, as you proceed, the guideline can be moved up to match each successive course of bricks. Line blocks can be used to hold line in place... When laying bricks, always start at the corners and keep the corners higher than the rest of your work. Work from the corners toward the center of your wall. Use the level frequently to check level and plumb. As the wall increases in height, move the line blocks up to the ends of your corner lead.

Use plastic line blocks to attach line to corners and ends, which are always built up first. Lay bricks flush with line, but do not push it out. Line blocks, unlike pins and nails, leave no holes in mortar to be filled in later.
