The cod trap is basically a room, with four walls and a floor, constructed of netting. Fish enter the trap through a doorway in the front wall. Extending outward from the centre of the doorway is a long wall of netting which, because of its function of leading fish into the trap, came to be called the leader. The trap is kept upright in the water by floats placed along the top of the walls, and lead weights at the bottom. It is held on location by a system of corner ropes anchored to the sea bottom. 3, record 2, English, - cod%20trap

16, record 21, French, - sprinkleur

There is no limitation over the dominion of maritime territory. A bay or gulf, no matter how large, that cannot be held to be part of an open ocean highway is considered to be the maritime territory of the nation which occupies its shores, as, for example, the Gulf of St. Lawrence would be the maritime territory of Canada. A strait, of which both shores are within a national boundary, is also considered to be maritime territory, and the passage of foreign ships through it can be forbidden. But where the two shores of a strait are held by different countries, as for example Britain and France in the case of the Straits of Dover, the water between the shores cannot be claimed as maritime territory by either nation but is an international ocean highway. 1, record 25, English, - maritime%20territory

All used nuclear fuel in Canada is currently held on site in interim storage facilities, which are safe, secure and environmentally sound. Interim storage of used nuclear fuel at a nuclear facility typically consists of two phases known as wet storage and dry storage. Initially, used nuclear fuel bundles are stored under water in bays or pools after they have been removed from the reactors. These reinforced, leak-proof facilities enable the fuel to cool off in a shielded and secure facility. After 6 to 10 years in wet storage, the used nuclear fuel can be safely transferred to dry storage in concrete canisters, containers or silos. 1, record 30, English, - dry%20storage

Cycling sprinkler. A development by the sprinkler industry is a sprinkler that cycles on and off as needed.... Under normal conditions, the pilot valve is held closed by the snap disc. Water in the piston chamber holds the piston closed. When the snap disc is heated to the rated temperature, it opens the pilot valve and releases the water from the piston chamber. This allows the piston to open and water to flow from the sprinkler. When the snap disc cools to approximately 100°F, it closes the pilot valve. 5, record 34, English, - on%2Doff%20sprinkler

The Alaska Salmon Packing and Fur Company built the first saltery near Ketchikan at Naha, near the outlet of Roosevelt Lagoon. This saltery began operations in 1883 when it packed 338 barrels. Salteries were constructed much like a barn with large tables inside where men split the fish in two and removed the intestines and blood. They scrubbed the fish and cleaned them with fresh water. The men placed the fish in rows with the skin side down inside of large barrels called "tierces. "Each tierce held about 800 pounds of fish. Workers added 16 pounds of salt(similar to table salt) for every 100 pounds of fish. 3, record 38, English, - saltery

The amount of work that must be done per unit quantity of pure water in order to transport reversibly and isothermally an infinitesimal quantity of water, identical in composition with the soil water, from a pool at the elevation and the external gas pressure of the point under consideration, to the soil water. 4, record 48, English, - capillary%20potential
Record number: 48, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Matric potential is the most important component in soil, but is more difficult to visualize. Water will not freely leave soil unless soil is very wet. This is because of adhesion and cohesion. Imagine placing a clump of dry soil on a table, then dropping a drop of water onto the clump of dry soil. If you elevate the soil off of the table, will the water leap out of it, dropping to the table? Of course not. It will stay in the soil, held by adhesion, or what we often call matric forces. The symbol for matric potential is [psi subscript m]. These values are negative or zero, but never positive, because this water is not free to move to the zero state.... The matric potential of a soil refers to the potential of the most easily removed molecule... 5, record 48, English, - capillary%20potential

In certain circumstances it may be desirable to shape the ground to allow surface water to collect in a water storage pond on site. This concept of retaining surface water run-off by reducing the peak water impact on the storm sewer capacity and by providing an attractive site feature, may be economical on large sites. It may also be possible to use a less expensive underground sewer system with fewer or smaller diameter pipes because the peak water impact will be collected by the retention pond instead of the sewer system. 2, record 52, English, - retention%20pond

Tensiometers measure soil tension. This is also often referred to as soil suction or vacuum. Soil tension is a measure of how tightly water is held in the soil, and is measured in pressure units of centibars(cb) or kilopascals(kPa). These are equivalent units. One hundred centibars equal approximately 15 psi. Soil tension increases as moisture in the soil is depleted. This force also draws water out of the tensiometer through its porous tip, creating a vacuum inside the tensiometer. This negative pressure, or tension, is registered on the tensiometer vacuum gauge. The soil tension measured with tensiometers is an indirect indication of soil moisture content and can be used as an indicator of irrigation need. 3, record 53, English, - soil%20suction

2, record 58, French, - a%C3%A9roflottation

Even the smallest rabbittry benefits from an automatic or semi-automatic system. The simplest watering system is semi-automatic. You fill a holding tank(perhaps just a large bucket) elevated above the hutches, and the water flows down through pipes alongside the cages. Valves are inserted into the pipe at each cage. The rabbits bite on the valves to release the water. There are two types of valves. The "dewdrop" valve has a metal stem in it which is dislodged when bit or licked. This allows the water to trickle through. After a rabbit has stopped drinking, the stem drops back into the valve opening and is held in place by the water pressure. 1, record 71, English, - dewdrop%20valve

The etched surface is now completely dried(...) and placed horizontally on plasticene with the polished surface up. As soon as the surface is more or less ’room dry’, acetone is carefully poured over the surface and continually squirted over the surface with a small pipette. The acetate sheet is immediately rolled on during this process.(...) The acetate sheet is pressed down with the finger and gently held down for about 5-10 minutes so that the peel can shrink.
