English

Subject field(s)
  • Radio Transmission and Reception
  • Telecommunications Facilities
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

A coil antenna mounted perpendicular to a flat metal-plate reflector, an arrangement that produces circularly polarized waves in a narrow beam.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Émission et réception radio
  • Installations de télécommunications
  • Télédétection
CONT

L'antenne en hélice est essentiellement constituée d'un fil enroulé en hélice. Elle est excitée par une ligne coaxiale dont la gaine est raccordée à un réflecteur. Elle est à polarisation circulaire.

Record 2 2007-01-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Space Exploration Equipment and Tools
  • Spacecraft
CONT

The above deck equipment is usually some form of tracking dish, with a circular polarized feed arrangement. This usually takes the form of an helical antenna, wound with left-hand circular polarization. The signal from the satellite is right-hand circular polarization, but since the signal is reflected by the dish, polarization sense is reversed. This is the same principle as if you were to look in a mirror; your image is reversed.

OBS

Inmarsat satellite.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electrical Power Supply
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
CONT

The news antenna is made up of 25 stacked double rows of helical diode phase-shifters, employing a so-called "corporate" feed method, rather than end-feed, which makes the system non-frequency dispersive in azimuth and compatible with true random frequency dispersion...
