HELICAL SCAN [7 records]

Record 1 2015-09-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medical Imaging
CONT

In addition to this simultaneous technique, helical CT [computed tomography] imaging allows for the continuous movement of the CT table during imaging. If multi-slice imaging is done in conjunction with helical scanning, reductions in scan time are possible.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Imagerie médicale
CONT

  • Audiovisual Techniques and Equipment

  • Storage Media (Data Processing)
DEF

In video [and computer] systems, a method of achieving the high tape speeds necessary for video recording by moving both the tape and the video heads.

CONT

Helical scan uses two video heads mounted on opposite sides of a revolving drum. The video head drum spins at one frame per revolution so that each head scans one field per revolution. As the tape winds around the drum of the video head, it assumes a helical shape, thus giving the process its name.

DEF

DEF

An audio signal recorded on a VHS [or S-VHS] tape as a stripe at the top edge.

OBS

The slow speed of VHS tape makes for a poor recording. Much better is a Hi-Fi track, which is recorded with the video in a helical scan.

DEF

OBS

The helical aperture facsimile transmitter is fairly common on low-to mid-volume fax units. The original is roller fed over a flatbed copy platen and illuminated by an area lamp. Lens and mirror optics reflect and focus one scan line of the moving document at a time, first through a fixed horizontal slit aperture, and then through a rotating helical aperture. The rotating of the helical aperture produces one lateral scan of the original per revolution, with the passing light being focused a final time onto a photocell for conversion to an electrical signal.
