All helicopters incorporate a one-way clutch system that allows the rotor blades to continue to rotate under the effects of inertia and autogiro-type flight in the event of engine failure.... the flow of the airstream through the helicopter rotor disk is reversed. The force of gravity continues the operation of the rotor blade, thereby reducing the rate of descent and allowing a successful emergency landing. Because of the time required to effect this change and the necessity for other flight maneuvers, these characteristics led to the development of a restricted area of operations of the helicopter known as the deadman's curve, bounding that area of height and speed in which the helicopter should not be operated. 1, record 3, English, - deadman%26rsquo%3Bs%20curve

The fenestron, [like] a conventional tail rotor, [features] spinning blades that generate a thrust force to cancel out the tendency of a helicopter fuselage to rotate. However, the fenestron rotor differs from a conventional rotor by adding several more blades.... Compared to conventional tail rotor blades, the fenestron blades are also much smaller and spin at higher speeds. Furthermore, these blades are mounted within a shroud that forms part of the vertical tail fin of the helicopter. This configuration turns the rotor into a ducted fan whose blade tips are protected from the external air. 3, record 4, English, - fantail

3, record 4, French, - fenestron

Special operations forces and support helicopter landing zones are generally covert. FP [force protection] is achieved by employing use of terrain and CCD [camouflage, concealment and deception] procedures. The FP presence must be balanced with the need to preserve operational secrecy. FP will normally be provided by the SOF [special operations force] units that are being supported. In the event of ground attack, the task of FP will be to warn landing zone personnel and to delay the attackers until the helicopters are able to depart. 1, record 5, English, - special%20operations%20forces%20and%20support%20helicopter%20landing%20zone

The present work aims at trying out Acoustic Impact Technique as a possible means of deployment at field level for the purpose of flaw detection in composite helicopter blades. The principle underlying Acoustic Impact Testing is simple. The sound produced when a structure is tapped is mainly at the frequencies of major structural modes of vibration, which are structural properties. Any difference in the sound is necessarily due to modification affected to the force input by the defect in the structure. A study of the force time history of response or its fast fourier transform makes it possible to locate and detect sub surface flaws. 3, record 10, English, - acoustic%20impact%20technique
