Héliographe de Jordan. [...] Il se compose de deux boîtes hémicylindriques, dont la paroi plane est perçée d'une petite fente à côté de laquelle se trouve un écran. Les deux boîtes sont supportées par une monture qu'on fixe sur un trépied au moyen d'un boulon. Les parois cylindriques des deux boîtes sont garnies à l'intérieur de papier héliosensible. Lorsque le Soleil brille, les rayons entrant par l'une des fentes, forment sur le papier une petite image lumineuse de la fente. Cette image se déplace en même temps que le Soleil, à raison de quelques millimètres l'heure, et trace une bande sur le papier sensible. Les parties impressionnées, de couleur brune, correspondent aux instants où le Soleil a brillé. Les heures sont repérables par un calque de lecture que l'on applique ensuite sur les bandes. Les écrans voisins des fentes ont pour but d'abriter des rayons du Soleil, la fente occidentale avant midi et la fente orientale après midi, de sorte que les deux tracés se fassent exactement suite.

The Culgoora radioheliograph, commissioned in 1967, was initially designed to operate at a frequency of 80 MHz. Scanning a north-south line of points across a field of view of approximately 2 E-W X 1.6 N-S yields a two-dimensional image of the solar corona once per second. (...)
