English

Subject field(s)
  • Lasers and Masers
  • Atomic Physics
  • Optics
DEF

An atomic gas laser in which a combination of helium and neon gases is used.

CONT

Helium neon lasers are used widely in commercial and industrial applications. They are used in barcode scanners, holography, non-contact measuring and monitoring, tool alignment, parts detection, blood analysis and alignment of high power CO2 and YAG [yttrium-aluminum-garnet] treatment lasers and pointing beams.

Key term(s)
  • helium neon gas laser
  • He Ne laser

French

Domaine(s)
  • Masers et lasers
  • Physique atomique
  • Optique
CONT

Key term(s)

  • laser He Ne

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Lasers and Masers
  • Optics
  • Navigation Instruments
CONT

Null-shift or bias errors are caused by a laser cavity, which is anisotropic with respect to the light beams traveling in opposite directions. The primary mechanism causing an anisotropic cavity is the flow of the laser medium(helium-neon gas) moving in the cavity. This flow can be attributed to two effects that is, thermal gradients... in the cavity, and unbalanced laser discharge current.
