Record 1 2012-10-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microbiology and Parasitology
  • Human Diseases
DEF

A virus that, by its infection of a cell already infected by a defective virus, is able to supply something the defective virus lacks, thus enabling the latter to multiply.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
  • Maladies humaines
DEF

Record 2 2012-08-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microbiology and Parasitology
  • Genetics
DEF

A virus which is unable to reproduce in its host without the presence of another virus(named "helper virus") because it lacks one or more genetic functions necessary for its replication.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
  • Génétique
DEF

Record 3 2007-04-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microbiology and Parasitology
  • Plant Biology
  • Plant Diseases
DEF

A defective virus requiring a helper virus to provide functions necessary for replication. It may code for its own coat protein or various other products.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
  • Biologie végétale
  • Maladies des plantes
DEF

CONT

Human T-lymphotropic virus 1,(HTLV-1) [is] a species in the genus BLV-HTLV retroviruses, of worldwide distribution, having an affinity for helper/inducer T Lymphocytes; it causes chronic infection and is associated with adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma and chronic progressive myelopathy. Called also human T-cell leukemia virus type I and human T-cell lymphotrophic virus type I.

  • Immunologie
DEF

CONT

The missing proteins are supplied by a "helper" provirus from which the psi region has been deleted. Psi is crucial to the inclusion of RNA in viral particles; without it, no virus carrying helper RNA can form. The particles that escape the cell, then carry therapeutic RNA and no viral genes.

A defective RNA virus that cannot survive on its own, hepatitis-delta virus requires the helper function of a DNA virus hepatitis B(or hepadnaviruses of other species), to support its replication and expression.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
CONT
