The Hemispheric Trade and Sustainability Symposium was held in Quebec City on April 17-19, 2001, a few days before the third Summit of the Americas. The overall goal of the Symposium was to provide a constructive, policy-oriented, and knowledge-based open forum for dialogue on trade and sustainability issues in the Americas. The Symposium strived to identify policy options that could be mutually beneficial to trade, environment, and development, thereby increasing public support for trade liberalisation in the Americas.

Le Symposium hémisphérique sur le commerce et le développement durable a eu lieu dans la Ville de Québec du 17 au 19 avril 2001 et précédait de quelques jours le troisième Sommet des Amériques. L'objectif général de cet événement était d'alimenter les discussions dans les divers domaines reliés au commerce et au développement durable dans les Amériques, à travers un forum de discussion ouvert, axé sur les politiques et permettant un dialogue constructif. Le Symposium a également servi à identifier les différentes options de politiques qui pourraient être bénéfiques à la fois au commerce, à l'environnement et au développement, renforçant ainsi le soutien à la libéralisation des marchés au sein de l'opinion publique.
