Pars plana vitrectomy(PPV) is a commonly employed technique in vitreoretinal surgery that enables access to the posterior segment for treating conditions such as retinal detachments, vitreous hemorrhage, endophthalmitis, and macular holes in a controlled, closed system. The procedure derives its name from the fact that vitreous is removed(i. e., vitreous + ectomy=removal of vitreous) and the instruments are introduced into the eye through the pars plana. 1, record 1, English, - pars%20plana%20vitrectomy

The concept of damage control with regard to trauma care was initially described in the early 1990s with the use of damage-control laparotomy. In contrast to definitive laparotomy, this surgical approach to severely injured patients involves initial control of life-threatening hemorrhage and contamination, followed by intraperitoneal packing and rapid closure with planned re-exploration at a later time once the patient is hemodynamically stabilized. 2, record 2, English, - damage%20control

Macular hemorrhages can cause devasting visual loss ... Most often, elderly patients with age-related macular degeneration are affected, followed by patients with retinal arterial macroaneurysms. Other conditions that can cause macular hemorrhages are PCV (polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy), secondary CNVMs [choroidal neovascular membranes] of various origin, posttraumatic choroidal ruptures, Valsalva-maculopathy, and Terson’s syndrome. ... the concept of damage control ... sees surgery as part of the process of resuscitation rather than an end in itself. In a damage control laparotomy for a critically wounded and exsanguinating patient the surgeon focuses on achieving haemostasis and preventing uncontrolled spillage of intestinal contents and urine, the laparotomy is abbreviated and the surgeon expends his or her efforts restoring the patient’s ... physiology in the surgical intensive care unit. Delayed gastrointestinal reconstruction can then be achieved following full haemodynamic resuscitation and restoration of coagulation variables to normal. 4, record 5, English, - damage%20control%20laparotomy

damage control surgery : Some authors use the term "damage control surgery" as a synonym of "abbreviated laparotomy" or "damage control laparotomy" to refer to a laparotomy for rapid control of hemorrhage and contamination. Perhaps the most widely recognized of all disorders affecting racehorses is "bleeding, "or exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage(EIPH). We now know that most racehorses bleed at some time during their careers. In fact, many horses might bleed every time they undertake intense exercise, such as breezing and racing. We also know that bleeding can occur in situations other than flat racing. For example, EIPH has been detected in three-day eventers, steeplechasers, and polo ponies, among others. Bleeding has even been observed in draft horses pulling heavy loads. The common denominator is strenuous exercise. 2, record 11, English, - exercise%2Dinduced%20pulmonary%20hemorrhage

L'hémorragie post-partum (HPP) est une des causes principales de morbidité et de mortalité maternelles dans les pays industrialisés.
