The Special Crops Value Chain Roundtable(SCVCRT) brings together key leaders in the special crops sector including producers, processors, traders and other stakeholders. This roundtable's crop sectors include buckwheat, canary seed, forages, herbs, spices, hemp, mustard seed and sunflower seed. It focuses on capturing niche market opportunities to further grow the sector, building on the reputation Canadian producers have for growing high-quality products and being trustworthy suppliers. The roundtable also focuses on transportation issues, health claims, the regulatory environment, traceability, value-added capacity, research and innovation and market intelligence.

La Table ronde sur la chaîne de valeur des cultures spéciales (TRCVCS) réunit les principaux dirigeants du secteur des cultures spéciales, notamment les producteurs, les transformateurs, les négociants et autres intervenants. Les secteurs de la culture du sarrasin, des graines d'alpiste des Canaries, des plantes fourragères, des herbes et des épices, du chanvre industriel, de la moutarde et du tournesol figurent parmi les participants de cette table ronde. La TRCVCS concentre ses efforts sur l'accès à de nouveaux marchés à créneaux pour faire croître le secteur, et ce, en mettant à profit la réputation des producteurs canadiens qui cultivent des produits de grande qualité et qui sont reconnus comme étant des fournisseurs dignes de confiance. Elle se penche également sur les questions liées au transport, aux allégations santé, à la réglementation, à la traçabilité, à la capacité de valeur ajoutée, à la recherche et innovation et à l'information commerciale.

The term "special crop" is used... to define a diverse group of crops including : pulses(chickpeas, dry beans, dry peas and lentils), buckwheat, canary seed, forages, ginseng, herbs(medicinal plants), spices, industrial hemp, mustard seed, safflower seed, seeds(for sowing), sunflower seed, sugar beets, tobacco and wild rice. It is a catch-all category for those crops not included in major grains and oilseeds or horticultural crops.
