The Gwich’in Social and Cultural Institute(GSCI) was established as the cultural and heritage arm of the GTC in response to concerns about the decline of Gwich’in culture and language and the need to implement heritage resource issues identified in the land claim(Legislation and Policy). In the fall of 1993, the Institute began operation with the mandate to ’document, preserve and promote the practice of Gwich’in culture, language, traditional knowledge and values. ’The objective of the Institute is to conduct research in the areas of culture, language and traditional knowledge so that this body of knowledge will be recorded and available for future generations and the development of programs appropriate for Gwich’in needs. L’Institut culturel et social gwich’in a été créé en réaction aux inquiétudes concernant le déclin de la culture et de la langue gwich’in et en raison de la nécessité d’identifier les ressources du patrimoine précisées dans la revendication territoriale (Législation et politiques). En automne 1993, l’Institut a commencé ses activités, avec le mandat de documenter, de préserver et de promouvoir la pratique de la langue, les connaissances traditionnelles et les valeurs gwich’in. L’objectif de l’Institut est d’effectuer de la recherche dans les domaines de la culture, de la langue et des connaissances traditionnelles pour pouvoir élaborer des programmes appropriés, qui répondent aux besoins des Gwich’in. The Language Rights Support Program objectives are : to promote awareness of language rights through public education; to offer access to alternative dispute resolution processes to settle disputes out of court; to support litigation that helps to advance and clarify constitutional language rights when test cases are involved and dispute resolution efforts have not resolved matters. On September 9, 2009, the Minister of Canadian Heritage announced the choice of the University of Ottawa as the Program's managing institution. The 12-hour clock is a time conversion convention in which the 24 hours of the day are divided into two periods called “ante meridiem”(“a. m., ” English :"before mid day") and “post meridiem”(“p. m., ” English :"after mid day"). Each period consists of 12 hours numbered : 12(acting as zero), 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. … Confusion at noon and midnight.... The National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, states : To avoid confusion, the correct designation for twelve o’clock is 12 noon or 12 midnight. Alternatively, the twenty-four-hour-clock system may be used. … In the United States, noon is often called "12 : 00 p. m. "and midnight "12 : 00 a. m. "With this convention, thinking of "12" as "0" makes the system logical. The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language(Fourth Edition, 2000) has a similar usage note on this topic :"Strictly speaking, 12 a. m. denotes midnight, and 12 p. m. denotes noon, but there is sufficient confusion over these uses to make it advisable to use 12 noon and 12 midnight where clarity is required. "Many U. S. style guides(including the NIST website) recommend that it is clearest if one refers to "noon" or "12 : 00 noon" and "midnight" or "12 : 00 midnight"(rather than to "12 : 00 p. m. "and "12 : 00 a. m. ", respectively). … The use of "12 : 00 midnight" or "midnight" is still problematic because it does not distinguish between the midnight at the start of a particular day and the midnight at its end. To avoid confusion and error, some U. S. style guides recommend either clarifying "midnight" with other context clues, or not referring to midnight at all. For an example of the latter method, "midnight" is replaced with "11 : 59 p. m. "for the end of a day or "12 : 01 a. m. "for the start of the next day. That has become common in the United States in legal contracts and for airplane, bus, or train schedules, though some schedules use other conventions. The 24-hour clock notation avoids all of those ambiguities by using 00 : 00 for midnight at the start of the day and 12 : 00 for noon. From 23 : 59 : 59 the time shifts(one second later) to 00 : 00 : 00, the beginning of the next day. Commencing in 1974 and produced by the Education and Cultural Affairs Division of the National Museum of Man in conjunction with the relevant research divisions, the Museum Kits were multi-media, thematic, learning packages which were loaned free of charge for two-week intervals to schools community groups, libraries, etc. Each "museum in a box" included artifacts, specimens and related interpretive material such as films, maps, fact sheets, slides and resource books. There were two types of kits-a small kit with limited artifacts and resource materials, usually in separate language versions and the larger, bilingual, more complex kits, with resources inserted according to the requirements of the borrowers. The kits were designed for the 11-14 age group and were to promote an understanding and appreciation for Canada's multicultural heritage as well as the functions and importance of human history museums within Canada. À partir de 1974, la Division de l'éducation et des affaires culturelles du Musée national de l'Homme, avec les divisions pertinentes de la recherche, a produit les Muséotrousses, des ensembles pédagogiques multimédias, thématique, prêtés gratuitement pendant deux semaines aux écoles aux groupes communautaires, aux bibliothèques, entre autres. Chacune des trousses «musée dans une boîte» comprenait des artefacts, des spécimens et des documents interprétatifs connexes, comme des films, des cartes, des feuillets d'information, des diapositives et des manuels de référence. Il y avait deux sortes de trousses - une petite trousse avec un nombre limité d'artefacts et de documents de référence, habituellement dans des versions langagières distincts et une grande trousse, bilingue, plus complexe, avec des ressources insérées selon les besoins des emprunteurs. Les trousses étaient conçues pour le groupe d'âge des 11-14 ans, en vue de promouvoir la compréhension et la connaissance du patrimoine multiculturel du Canada, ainsi que les fonctions et l'importance des musées d'histoire humaine au Canada.
