The flagship urban-development project of the NCC in the last several decades has been Confederation Boulevard-the Capital' s ceremonial and discovery route. In collaboration with federal and municipal partners, the NCC designed and constructed this 7. 5-kilometre route around the heart of Canada's Capital Region. Aside from providing an elegant streetscape for some of the most important sites and institutions of the nation, the Boulevard is a focus for year-round national celebrations, events and interpretation programs that help people to discover important aspects of Canada's government, culture, heritage, landscape and relations with other nations of the world. The idea for a ceremonial route in the heart of the Capital goes back to the 19th century. However, it was not until 1967-centennial year-that planners began to talk about a ceremonial route for processions and state visits, as a unifying element in the core areas of Ottawa, Ontario, and Hull(now Gatineau), Quebec, and as a vehicle for communicating the Capital of Canadians. Planning began in 1982 and construction in 1985. The central part of Confederation Boulevard was officially opened by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien on June 30, 2000. The last phase of three-phase construction will be completed in 2006. 1, record 6, English, - Confederation%20Boulevard

1, record 20, French, - programme%20pancanadien%20de%20mobilit%C3%A9%20%C3%A9tudiante

Commencing in 1974 and produced by the Education and Cultural Affairs Division of the National Museum of Man in conjunction with the relevant research divisions, the Museum Kits were multi-media, thematic, learning packages which were loaned free of charge for two-week intervals to schools community groups, libraries, etc. Each "museum in a box" included artifacts, specimens and related interpretive material such as films, maps, fact sheets, slides and resource books. There were two types of kits-a small kit with limited artifacts and resource materials, usually in separate language versions and the larger, bilingual, more complex kits, with resources inserted according to the requirements of the borrowers. The kits were designed for the 11-14 age group and were to promote an understanding and appreciation for Canada's multicultural heritage as well as the functions and importance of human history museums within Canada. Catalogues of available kits were produced and circulated through the National Programs Division. They have been discontinued. 1, record 43, English, - museum%20in%20a%20box

Beginning in 1993, l'École des hautes études commerciales in Montréal, via the Programme des centres d’excellence de la langue française, consulted with over 300 arts, cultural and communication enterprises and associations, and federal grant and contribution managers, on the importance of management/internal control and performance evaluation. Contrary to public perception, enterprises in the field of arts and culture consider management controls to be highly important and see them as contributing directly to the profitability of their business. The final project report recommended improvements to the management of federal grant and contribution programs, and to the structure, management systems, internal controls and performance evaluations of cultural enterprises. The federal departments in charge of the project are Canadian Heritage and Industry Canada. 1, record 65, English, - Management%20Controls%20in%20Communications%20and%20Cultural%20Industry%2C%20Phase%20II%20Research%20Project

1, record 65, French, - Les%20contr%C3%B4les%20de%20gestion%20et%20les%20entreprises%20de%20communications%20et%20de%20culture%2C%20projet%20de%20recherche%2C%20phase%20II
