In recognition of the importance of protecting our natural heritage, the Government of Canada will commit $90 million over three years and, in subsequent years, will stabilize funding at $45 million annually to create a National Strategy on Species at Risk. Under this strategy, the Government will introduce federal species protection legislation and stewardship programs, which will build on the work done with provincial and territorial partners under the Accord for the Protection of Species at Risk. This national strategy will protect species at risk and their critical habitat by funding recovery initiatives and species protection activities.
