CONT

The Yakimovsky algorithm is somewhat akin to the phagocyte heuristic but uses a much more sophisticated model for the merging.

OBS

A heuristic rule is any rule that has been found to work well in practice in a given situation and which can therefore be used as a guide whenever one is faced with a similar situation. A heuristic model is a set of such rules usually expressed in mathematical terms.

CONT

The require-link heuristic is used when an evolving model has a link in a place where a near-miss does not. The model link is concerted to a MUST form.

Record 4 1998-11-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Artificial Intelligence
DEF

A system that uses a collection of primitive concepts in mathematics and discovers concepts, such as prime numbers.

CONT

AM attempts to model learning by discovery. Starting from an initial set of elementary mathematical concepts and a set of heuristic rules, it tries to generate interesting new concepts. Central to its operation is an agenda which schedules tasks on the basis of an heuristic evaluation of their usefulness.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Intelligence artificielle
CONT

CONT

In intelligent computer-assisted instruction(ICAI), recovery from errors takes place as weights are updated in different contexts in which the conflict does not exist. Heuristic selection allows immediate action, and the reinforcement of accumulative weights tends to focus on perceived remediation needs quickly, in keeping with the directive altitude typical of model tracing tutors such as ACTP's.

OBS

Not to be confused with "error recovery" of a computer system in reliability and security.

OBS

Ne pas confondre ce concept applicable aux étudiants utilisateurs de didacticiels, avec celui rencontré en fiabilité et sécurité informatique, applicable aux systèmes.

DEF

An heuristic used when something in an evolving model corresponds to a different thing in an example. MUST-BE-A links are routed to the most specific shared class in the classification tree above the model thing and the example thing.

Record 7 1987-12-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Artificial Intelligence
DEF

An heuristic used when a number or interval in an evolving model corresponds to a number in an example. If the model uses a number, the number is replaced by an interval spanning the model' s number and the example's number. If the model uses an interval, the interval is enlarged to reach the example's number.

An heuristic used when the things that are different in an evolving model and in an example form an exhaustive set. Also used when an evolving model has a link that is not in the example. The link is dropped from the model
