HEXAGONAL CRYSTAL STRUCTURE [5 records]

Record 1 2016-12-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Pollution
  • Pollutants
CONT

Mineral dust appears a promising source of sublimation nuclei. Dust produced by the disintegration of rocks and blown to fairly high levels is a probable source of supply. Sand from desert regions is another possibility. It is likely that both the mineral dust and the sand contain suitable minerals, such as quartz, which have a hexagonal crystal structure.

CONT

Suspended solids are largely composed of fine mineral particles (silt, clay and colloids) together with varying amounts of animal or plant debris, depending on the season.

OBS

mineral: An inorganic substance.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pollution de l'air
  • Agents de pollution
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
OBS

Alkali Anions. Preparation and Crystal Structure of a compound Which Contains the Cryptated Sodium Cation and the Sodium Anion.... When a saturated solution of sodium metal in ethylamine in the presence of a cation-complexing bicyclic diamino ether("crypt") is cooled, crystals of [a stoichiometric sodium compound] form as thin hexagonal plates.... One of the sodium species is trapped in "crypt" and the other is outside.

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie
DEF

Retenir sélectivement des ions alcalins et alcalino-terreux.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
DEF

One of the many geometrical forms in which ice crystals are found in the atmosphere.

CONT

The dominant snow crystal illustrated... is a hexagonal plate with six radiating arms. However, associated with the surface of the central plate and extending into the arms are numerous spherical "droplets". These particles, which are about 0. 03 to 0. 05 mm in diameter, are consistent with the descriptions of cloud particles or supercooled water droplets that have been described in light microscopic examinations of snow crystals(Bentley and Humphreys, 1931; Nakaya, 1954). The radiating arms contain another type of surface structure, namely small microcrystals that consist of short hexagonal columns most of which are only 0. 05 to 0. 10 mm in diameter. Some of these structures appear to be transitional stages that arise from the droplets.

OBS

Snowflakes can be described by their geometric shapes, or variations of them, such as prismatic column, hexagonal plate, cup, hexagonal column, needle, flat plate, and dendrite.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Phénomènes météorologiques, climatiques et atmosphériques
CONT
