La constante solar (Gsc), es el flujo de energía proveniente del Sol, que incide sobre una superficie perpendicular a la dirección de propagación de la radiación solar, ubicada a la distancia media de la Tierra al Sol, fuera de toda atmósfera. Esta energía corresponde a una radiación electromagnética formada por distintas longitudes de onda (espectro solar) agrupadas en tres bandas: ultravioleta (UV), visible e infrarrojo (IR). Cada banda transporta una cantidad de energía determinada, siendo a este respecto las más importantes el visible y el IR.
