Domaine(s)
  • Biochimie
  • Biologie moléculaire
CONT

Record 2 2010-04-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
OBS

The first Haemophilus influenzae type b(Hib) vaccine to be licensed in Australia became available in May 1992. This vaccine contains polyribosylribitol phosphate(PRP), a constituent of the Hib capsule, conjugated to diptheria toxoid, hence its generic name the PRP-D vaccine. Three newer PRP conjugate vaccines against Hib-PRP-CRM, PRP-OMP and PRP-T-have been submitted for licensing in Australia and will probably become available in late 1992.

Domaine(s)
  • Immunologie
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microbiology and Parasitology
  • Bacterial Diseases
CONT

Until recently, HIB [Haemophilus influenzae type b] was one of the most important causes of bacterial infection in young children. HIB may cause a variety of diseases such as meningitis(inflammation of the coverings of the spinal column and brain), blood stream infections, pneumonia, arthritis and infections of other parts of the body.

OBS

Haemophilus influenzae is a pleomorphic gram-negative coccobacillus that may be either encapsulated(types a-f) or unencapsulated(nontypeable). Most cases of invasive diseases in children, before the introduction of H. influenzae type b(Hib) conjugate vaccination, were caused by type b.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
  • Maladies bactériennes
CONT
