L'histoire de Coulicou et de Hibou est riche en soubresauts de toutes sortes. Ces titres, qui ont fait leur apparition il y a environ vingt-cinq ans, ont d'abord été publiés aux Éditions Héritage. Leur contenu était alors en grande partie constitué de traductions et d'adaptations des magazines canadiens-anglais Chickadee et Owl, publiés par le groupe Owl Communication. En 1997, ... son rachat par Bayard Canada a changé la donne. Les Éditions Enfants Québec ont dès lors pris la relève en continuant de publier les deux titres, mais en les remaniant entièrement (elles détiennent la licence d'exploitation des marques de commerce Coulicou et Hibou, qui demeurent la propriété des Éditions Héritage).
