A product engineer is responsible for overseeing the production of a product, typically in an indoor factory setting. They are responsible for ensuring that production demands are met efficiently and cost effectively. They often must decide which materials should be used to construct a product, how to assemble a product to ensure quality, and how to operate a production line with both machinery and manpower. Production engineers must work with company leaders to determine the demand for the product and the budget under which the product must be produced. The product engineer must work with the computer software that operates the factory machinery, as well as factory and production employees to ensure that tasks are being completed efficiently. Often, they are responsible for determining the number of employees needed to produce the product and are usually involved in the hiring process of those employees.
