Lansoprazole is the second inhibitor of the gastric H+/K+-ATPase to be marketed for the treatment of peptic ulcer disease and reflux oesophagitis. Like omeprazole, lansoprazole is an acid-activated, non-competitive and highly specific inhibitor of the proton pump which causes profound and long-lasting inhibition of acid secretion. In controlled clinical trials, lansoprazole results in more rapid healing of duodenal and gastric ulcers than histamine H2 receptor antagonists. 1, record 10, English, - proton%20pump

1, record 10, French, - pompe%20%C3%A0%20proton

The importance of the amino acid histidine lies in the fact that the body uses it to manufacture histamine, and histamine is responsible for a wide range of physiological processes. It is common knowledge that histamines cause the swelling and reddening in many inflammations and allergic reactions. This test indirectly determines specific IgE by measuring the histamine release from basophils challenged with allergens. As basophils and mast cells are fixed by IgE, allergens that react with specific IgE will crosslink two molecules of membrane-bound IgE and initiate mediator release from basophils or mast cells. Histamine is one of the mediators; hence by measuring the amount of histamine released, one has the overall assessment of the IgE-mediated mechanism, that is, quantity of histamine released correlates with the amount of membrane-bound specific IgE and the functioning properties of the basophils. 1, record 39, English, - leukocyte%20histamine%20release
