Quebec City, August 14 1998-The Honourable Andy Mitchell, Secretary of State(Parks), today announced the unveiling of a plaque from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, commemorating the national historical significance of the Siege of Quebec City in 1775-1776. "Quebec City is a precious witness to the military history of Canada, "said Mr. Mitchell. "I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a reenactment of battles on the Plains of Abraham this weekend as part of the event Taking the Capital by Storm. "This plaque recalls the victory against the American troops assaulting Quebec City in 1775, during the American Revolution. The displays of force of the Canadian and British detachments prevented the American invaders from taking the colony. The unveiling of a plaque commemorating the Siege of Quebec City in 1775-1776 follows recommendations made by the Board. 1, record 13, English, - Taking%20the%20Capital%20by%20Storm

1, record 13, French, - %C3%80%20l%27assaut%20de%20la%20Capitale

Grosse Île and the Irish Memorial National Historic Site commemorates three significant aspects of our history : first, the importance of immigration to Canada, particularly through Quebec City, from the early 19th century until World War I; Second the tragedies of Irish immigrants, especially due to the 1847 typhus epidemic; and finally Grosse Île's role from 1832 to 1937 as a quarantine station for the Port of Quebec, long the main point of arrival for immigrants coming to Canada. 1, record 14, English, - Grosse%2D%C3%8Ele%20and%20the%20Irish%20Memorial%20National%20Historic%20Site

1, record 14, French, - Lieu%20historique%20national%20de%20la%20Grosse%2D%C3%8Ele%2Det%2Dle%2DM%C3%A9morial%2Ddes%2DIrlandais

The constant research carried out by Tif Elettronica in the access control and automation sector has allowed the development of a range of patented pop-up deterrents called PILOMAT [registered trade mark] PASS that allow tranquility to return to city centres. The PILOMAT PASS roadblocks and/or parking deterrents are cylindrical bollards... that disappear into a hole in the ground, performing the function of genuine deterrents, guaranteeing pedestrian access but blocking road traffic without altering the character of the area since they can be raised and lowered automatically or manually at set times or for authorised vehicles only(e. g. residents, shuttle buses, emergency vehicles) for access to and transit of :historic town centres, residential areas, pedestrian areas, open markets, central restricted traffic streets, squares, roads and streets in general private driveways, hospital and hotel entrances, shopping centres car-parks and similar, wherever the use of gates, bars chains or similar is not practical. 1, record 15, English, - restricted%20traffic%20street

The participants of the round table were mainly discussing problems of the real estate legislation currently in force and information support of investment activities in the historic center of the city. From the point of view of the journalists, the main obstacles restricting development of the real estate reconstruction process are imperfection of the legislative framework, lack of required engineering capacities and old infrastructure utilities in the city center. 3, record 16, English, - real%20estate%20reconstruction
