A lognormal error is usually assumed in the traditional stock–recruitment(SR) analysis.... a positive bias results when [a] SR model with [a] lognormal error is used for fish recruitment prediction. Not only is this bias exponentially dependent on the structure of the model' s residual variance and the historical SR data, it is also dependent on the specific value of spawner biomass used.... a bias correction that is asymptotically unbiased with a finite-sample biasthat is practically zero [is then derived]. Data from two Pacific salmon populations, southeast Alaska pink salmon... and Chilko Lake sockeye salmon... are used to demonstrate this approach. The results show that the relative bias is about 10% for a spawning biomass within the historical range and that the bias is substantial outside that data range. SOCRAM is a simulation model that uses the eleven Force Planning Scenarios to generate the demand for operational assets. In a simulation run of the model operational assets are demanded when a scenario is activated and several scenarios can be activated concurrently. The scenario activation rates are based on historical records of CF [Canadian Forces] operations with an emphasis placed on the 1990s. The output of the model is a series of risk assessments where risk is defined as the probability of having an insufficient amount of operational assets. A modeling process by which variation in a time series are assumed to be explained wholly by the historical trends of the data itself. In essence, the ARIMA modeling process consists of the autoregressive and moving average processes of the Auto-Regressive Moving Average(ARMA) Model process on data that have been Differenced to render them Stationary. The process uses variations of differencing and transformations to describe historical patterns in the data. Like the simpler ARMA model, forecasts made by an ARIMA modeling process consist of only a mathematical process of projecting inherent characteristics of trend, cycles, and seasonality into the future and incorporate no economic relatinships.
