Intelligent Computer-Assisted Instruction (ICAI) ... encompasses two primary areas. One is instructional programs that model the learner ... These programs collect detailed data about the student’s work and formulate a hypothesis about what the student knows and is thinking. ... The other area is the use of expert systems ... that contain all known information on a particular topic, a set of logic that ties all this information together ..., and in some cases a program that allows a person to converse easily and in natural language with the computer. 8, record 2, English, - intelligent%20computer%2Daided%20instruction

Three-dimensional(3D) seismic surveys utilise 2D grids of seismic sources and receivers deployed on the ground surface. The seismic response of the ground is recorded as a time series corresponding to each source-receiver pair, and the wave propagation time becomes the third dimension of the data set.... If a 3D seismic survey is repeated at several time intervals, this historical time(as opposed to the wave propagation time) becomes a fourth dimension, hence the name 4D or time-lapse seismic. The 4D approach allows a detailed description of the evolution of the reservoir, but the overall cost of the survey escalates rapidly by repeating conventional 3D surveys. 4, record 11, English, - time%2Dlapse%20seismic

4, record 11, French, - sismique%204D

Canadians have worked in very diverse work-spaces throughout the 20th century. This photographic exhibition gives the viewer a closer look at these spaces and, more importantly, offers a perspective on the ordinary people who work within them. These people were not selected because of their fame or name, but for the ways in which they are representative of Canada and its economy, whether they are at work outdoors, underground, in a factory or in the home. These photographs were produced for many reasons : as a tool of communication; as a means for the government to promote and administer its programs; as a way for industry to advertise its achievements and thereby demonstrate corporate pride; to enable ordinary citizens to produce an historical and cultural record of a subject of personal importance to them. 1, record 12, English, - On%20the%20Job%20%2D%20A%20Century%20of%20Canadians%20at%20Work

1, record 12, French, - Au%20boulot%21%20%2D%20Un%20si%C3%A8cle%20de%20travail%20au%20Canada

The naval and military establishments in Penetanguishene operated for 39 years, from 1817 to 1856. In the summer of 1951, the Chamber of Commerce of Penetanguishene decided to develop the site of the old establishment as an historical and recreation park. It restored the remaining buildings, the officer's quarters, and opened a scenic road along the bay. It was called the Historic Naval and Military Establishments. PARKS CANADA. An historically inhabited place is an entity which was inhabited in the past but is no longer inhabited. As its name does not appear in the relevant provincial or territorial Gazetteer, the only evidence of its existence comes from history books or archival documents. This is the case of, among others, "Port-la-Joye" (P.E.I.), "Lower Fort Garry" (Man.), "Fish Creek" (Sask.), "Ninstints" (B.C.) and "Dawson City" (Y.T.), names of historically inhabited places used in Parks Canada toponyms. 1, record 19, English, - historically%20inhabited%20place

Sometimes, a distinction must be made between the historical designation and the present designation of a given toponym. For example, history texts confirm the existence in present-day Nova Scotia of "Port-Royal"(an historically inhabited place), where Champlain built the Habitation in 1605. The Gazetteer for the province indicates the existence, near the historical site, of the rural community now incorporated under the name "Port Royal"(currently gazetteered inhabited place) ;the same comment applies to the historical "Grand-Pré" and the currently inhabited "Grand Pré". Similarly, "Castle Hill" and "Signal Hill"(Nfld.) are entities that were once inhabited and were located on the geographical entities having the same names that are currently gazetteered and have a different form in FR :"Castle Hill(Nfld.)--colline Castle(T.-N.) "and "Signal Hill(Nfld.)--colline Signal(T.-N.) ". 1, record 19, English, - historically%20inhabited%20place

PARCS CANADA.

-- colline Signal (T.-N.)». 1, record 19, French, - lieu%20historiquement%20habit%C3%A9
