A lognormal error is usually assumed in the traditional stock–recruitment(SR) analysis.... a positive bias results when [a] SR model with [a] lognormal error is used for fish recruitment prediction. Not only is this bias exponentially dependent on the structure of the model' s residual variance and the historical SR data, it is also dependent on the specific value of spawner biomass used.... a bias correction that is asymptotically unbiased with a finite-sample biasthat is practically zero [is then derived]. Data from two Pacific salmon populations, southeast Alaska pink salmon... and Chilko Lake sockeye salmon... are used to demonstrate this approach. The results show that the relative bias is about 10% for a spawning biomass within the historical range and that the bias is substantial outside that data range. However, with the proposed bias correction, the bias is negligible both within(<0. 1%) and outside of(<0. 3%) the data range. 2, record 5, English, - bias%20correction

For historical and practical reasons, however, plant physiologists have developed another parameter called the water potential(psiw). Water potential is expressed in pressure units such as megapascals(MPa).... Like chemical potential, water potential is a relative quantity, and is always determined as a difference between the sample in question and a standard reference. For plant physiologists, the standard reference for water potential measurements is the water potential of pure water at one atmosphere of pressure. Brightness temperatures are both a measure of the physical temperature within the snow and a gauge of emissivity, or the ability of water or ice/snow to emit radiation at the microwave frequencies (frequencies in the centimeter wavelength range). Extracts from the Federal Heritage Buildings Policy.(Parks Canada). Designation of Federal Heritage Buildings. All federal buildings 40 years old or older for which alteration, demolition, or disposal are planned must be identified and referred to the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office(FHBRO) for evaluation, in order to determine if the buildings have heritage value. Also to be evaluated are buildings 40 years old or older whose acquisition is being contemplated. The Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office will evaluate the identified buildings to determine if they merit heritage designation. Parks Canada will prepare research that addresses historical, architectural and environmental criteria, as well as any other relevant information, as a basis for this evaluation. A building evaluated as a heritage building will be recommended for designation as a "classified" or as a "recognized" federal heritage building. A classified building is the higher of these two designations. The Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office will convey the recommended designation(classified or recognized) to the custodial department. The recommendation will be accompanied by a statement of heritage character. A federal building which has been designated under this policy will be entered in the Register of Federal Heritage Buildings, along with a statement of its heritage character. 2, record 24, English, - statement%20of%20heritage%20character

2, record 24, French, - %C3%A9nonc%C3%A9%20de%20valeur%20patrimoniale

In this groundwork for a biospheric systems ethics, human beings as well as historical communities qualify for the attribution of intrinsic value. That does not mean, however, that all things in the biospheric environment so qualify. Significantly, natural systems are not the only kind of entities we find in our world. There is a multitude of atoms and molecules that are not integrated in the functional structure of living systems and of the biosphere : they make up the atmosphere and the oceans, the rivers, lakes, soils, mountains and deserts of the globe.
