The House of Commons is the custodian of an important collection of art and artifacts reflecting Canada's social and political history. Many of these works are displayed throughout Parliament, including its committee rooms. This painting, Ghosts of Vimy Ridge, is currently on loan to the new Canadian War Museum, but its permanent home is the Centre Block's historic Railway Committee Room. Portraying the flickering spirits of departed Canadian soldiers making their way toward the summit of the ridge, it was painted in 1929 by Australian artist William Longstaff and purchased by Captain John Dewar, who donated it to Parliament in 1931. 1, record 11, English, - Ghosts%20of%20Vimy%20Ridge

The economy exists entirely within society, because all parts of the human economy require interaction among people. However, society is much more than just the economy. Friends and families, music and art, religion and ethics are important elements of society, but are not primarily based on exchanging goods and services. Society, in turn, exists entirely within the environment. Our basic requirements--air, food and water--come from the environment, as do the energy and raw materials for housing, transportation and the products we depend on. Finally, the environment surrounds society. At an earlier point in human history, the environment largely determined the shape of society. Today the opposite is true : human activity is reshaping the environment at an ever-increasing rate. The parts of the environment unaffected by human activity are getting smaller all the time. 2, record 13, English, - human%20economy

3, record 13, French, - %C3%A9conomie%20humaine

[History of Inuit Art :] Historical Overview of Epochs... People have been living in the Yukon region for almost 30 000 years and their history can be separated into several epochs : Pre-Dorset, Dorset, Thule, Historic and Contemporary.... The Historical Period[. ] This period is marked by several occurrences : the demise of Thule culture, a climatic change wherein weather was increasingly cold, the disappearance of the whales and the arrival of the white man in the 16th century. Around 1800, the various carvings, dolls, and toys were being traded with the whalers, sailors and explorers who were making increasingly frequent visits in the area. Trade art often was more detailed and exquisite than non-trade art of the time. By the early twentieth century, trade art had lost the magico-religious element and some areas even produced European objects such as Roman Catholic figurines, cigarette boxes, and cribbage boards. Increasingly, Inuit art forms were suited toward Europeans. 1, record 15, English, - Historical%20Period

Breadmaking in Egypt has a very long history : it is believed that Egypt was the home of the art of leavening flour/water doughs. The largest portion of wheat flour is used in the traditional baladi bread. The flour blend used to produce modern baladi bread is usually a blend of 30% imported flour(72% extraction) and 70% domestic flour(82% extraction). Traditionally, this type of bread is made with a sour or starter dough, although this is added more for flavour than for leavening action. 3, record 25, English, - baladi%20bread

1, record 25, French, - pain%20baladi

Industrial intelligence is the art of keeping one step ahead of the competition. If you dont’t know what the competition is up to, soon you will find out from dropping sales and losing market share. Spies and counter intelligence have been essential management tools from the beginning of history. In business keep tabs on your competition. Keep tabs on your competition keeping tabs on you.
