CONT

The economy exists entirely within society, because all parts of the human economy require interaction among people. However, society is much more than just the economy. Friends and families, music and art, religion and ethics are important elements of society, but are not primarily based on exchanging goods and services. Society, in turn, exists entirely within the environment. Our basic requirements--air, food and water--come from the environment, as do the energy and raw materials for housing, transportation and the products we depend on. Finally, the environment surrounds society. At an earlier point in human history, the environment largely determined the shape of society. Today the opposite is true : human activity is reshaping the environment at an ever-increasing rate. The parts of the environment unaffected by human activity are getting smaller all the time.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Doctrines, systèmes et politiques économiques
  • Coopération et développement économiques
CONT

[History of Inuit Art :] Historical Overview of Epochs... People have been living in the Yukon region for almost 30 000 years and their history can be separated into several epochs : Pre-Dorset, Dorset, Thule, Historic and Contemporary.... The Historical Period[. ] This period is marked by several occurrences : the demise of Thule culture, a climatic change wherein weather was increasingly cold, the disappearance of the whales and the arrival of the white man in the 16th century. Around 1800, the various carvings, dolls, and toys were being traded with the whalers, sailors and explorers who were making increasingly frequent visits in the area. Trade art often was more detailed and exquisite than non-trade art of the time. By the early twentieth century, trade art had lost the magico-religious element and some areas even produced European objects such as Roman Catholic figurines, cigarette boxes, and cribbage boards. Increasingly, Inuit art forms were suited toward Europeans.

Breadmaking in Egypt has a very long history : it is believed that Egypt was the home of the art of leavening flour/water doughs.
