English

Subject field(s)
  • Concrete Facilities and Equipment
CONT

Asphalt Concrete mixes made with asphalt cement are prepared at an asphalt mixing plant. Here, aggregates are blended, heated, dried, and mixed with asphalt cement to produce a hot mix asphalt(HMA).... Asphalt Concrete plants are basically of two types, batch or drum mix. The two types of asphalt plants derive their names from their particular type mixing operation. In the batch-type mixing plant, hot aggregate and asphalt are withdrawn in desired amounts to make up one batch for mixing. After mixing, the thoroughly mixed material is discharged from the pugmill in one batch. In the drum-type mixing plant, the aggregate is dried, heated, and mixed with the asphaltic cement in the drum in a continuous operation.

An asphalt mixture of the gap-graded type designed to have a very high content ... of interconnected voids so as to facilitate the passage of water.

CONT

... an open-graded HMA [hot mix asphalt] mixture is designed to be water permeable. Open-graded mixes use only crushed stone(or gravel) and a small percentage of manufactured sands.

OBS

DEF

DEF

The area, as defined by XMS, from 1024K to 1088K, i.e. the first 64K of extended memory. It is an important area because it is the only extended memory that can be accessed directly by DOS programs.

CONT

HMA memory. These are the chips at the 64K of memory addresses just above the 1024K address. HMA is part of extended memory, and can be used as extended.

DEF

The 64K of memory just above 1024K, which can be used by some PCs because of a trick in the microprocessor, which is only supposed to be able to reach 1024K. Sometimes spelled "hi memory".

DEF

The first 64K of extended memory, the addresses from 1024K to 1088K, are sometimes called Hi or High memory, in a confusing similarity to the 384K of high memory between 640K and 1024K.
