Hybrid polar compounds(HPCs) represent another kind of cyto-differentiating agent. Hexamethylene bisacetamide(HMBA), the prototype HPC, is an inducer of terminal differentiation and/or apoptosis in cultured transformed cells, including murine erythroleukemia(MEL) cells, human bladder carcinoma cells, and human myeloma cells.
