This will counterbalance your weight and help you keep your balance. What is snowskating?... it's skateboarding on snow. That's just the most basic explanation out there, but of course there a some more variables.... There is the technical side of snowskating that resembles the street style way of skateboarding with its flips and ollies. At the other end of the spectrum there is the surf-like snowskating style like longboards on snow, where you find your way through deep pow in a flow way of riding. The first snowboard was called the Snurfer which was invented around 1964. It consisted of some sort of small surfboard and a rope in front of the board to hold on too. There were no bindings present, so you could say the first snowboard was actually a snowskate. 2, record 11, English, - snowskating

In many cases, the A-tool can accomplish the same job as the K-tool. The A-tool may cause slightly more damage to the door than a K-tool, but it will rapidly pull the cylinder. Many locks are manufactured with collars or protective cone-shaped covers over them to prevent the lock cylinder from being unscrewed. The A-tool was developed as a direct result of those lock design changes. The A-tool is a prying tool with a sharp notch with cutting edges machined into it. The notch resembles the letter A. This tool is designed to cut behind the protective collar of a lock cylinder and maintain a hold so that the lock cylinder can be pried out. 1, record 13, English, - A%2Dtool

1, record 13, French, - barre%20arrache%2Dserrure

To complete a distress a seizure of the chattels is necessary. A seizure may be either actual or constructive. It is actual by laying hands on the article, or on one of several articles, and claiming to detain it or them until the rent is satisfied. The most proper manner of making a distress is for the person distraining to go upon any part of the premises out of which the rent issues and take hold of some personal chattel declaring that it is taken as a distress in the name of all goods, or of so much as will satisfy the rent in arrear, and this will be a good seizure of all. The fashion trend of the day was for the ladies to line their grey cloaks with red velvet, the colours of the British military uniform. Another method for a first jump is called Accelerated Freefall or AFF. With AFF, you actually jump out of an airplane at about 12, 000 ft(3658 m) and free fall for about 40 seconds before you pull the ripcord to open the parachute. During the freefall you have to maintain an aerodynamic body position. To ensure that all procedures are followed correctly, two instructors hold you from the time you jump until parachute opens. 3, record 16, English, - accelerated%20freefall

Record number: 18, Textual support number: 1 OBS
"Long" is an informal expression used to indicate that a shot went out past the baseline. Important nuance: a "stroke" implies early preparation and a complete follow through. If one were to envision a stroke, one would see a series of sequences, ending with a "shot", i.e. the result of all of the above. Consequently, a "shot" is the result of the "stroke". "Shot" implies a quick, sharp movement because one is focusing on the end result, not the series of sequences leading up to it. A "blow" is rather an imprecise, general term similar in meaning to "shot". Although many would like to maintain these nuances in English, "shot" and "stroke" are often used synonymously. "Blow" is used only rarely. Note, however that although there are two possible equivalents ("coup" and "frappe") in French, neither are semantically identical to the English offerings. The Spanish term "pegada" works well as an equivalent for "shot", although technically the term more specifically refers to the actual hitting action caused by the racket coming in contact with the ball, and not to the end result [cause vs effect]. 2, record 18, English, - shot

Flaking out of your rope. Before you can use your rope, you must uncoil it.... Climbers refer to this important uncoiling of their ropes as "flaking the rope out". To flake your rope out, hold it(coiled) in one hand and, with the other hand, remove every coil, one by one. Toss each coil on the ground... one on top of the other. You should form a loose pile of rope... This way the rope will easily follow you up the rock, without tangling on itself. 1, record 25, English, - flaking

Pneumatic systems are often compared to hydraulic systems, but such comparisons can only hold true in general terms.... Control valves are... a necessary part of a typical pneumatic system.... The control valve consists of a lever with two lobes. [In the off position], a spring holds the left poppet closed so that compressed air entering the pressure port cannot flow to the brakes. [In the on position], one lobe of the lever holds the left poppet open and a spring closes the right poppet. Compressed air now flows around the opened left poppet, through a drilled passage, and into a chamber below the right poppet. Since the right poppet is closed, the high-pressure air flows out of the brake port and into the brake line to apply the brakes. To release the brakes, the control valve is returned to the off position. 3, record 26, English, - control%20valve

How to shuck an oyster? This method of oyster shucking is often used by restaurants for presentation purposes. Hold the oyster cup side down, flat side up, with the hinged or narrow end in your hand. Insert the knife about 1/3 back from the wide end of the oyster. Go in using the knife and cut the muscle. Be careful to keep your fingers out of the path of the knife. Out of this initial success, a group of children dedicated to saving the tropical rain forest formed Barnens Regnskog, "Children's Rain Forest" in Swedish. The vision took hold, and soon other group organized to lend a hand : The Children's Rainforest(United States), Children's Tropical Forests(United Kingdom), Nippon Kodomo no Jungle(Japan). As the spirit sweeps across other lands, more groups are forming and individual contributions arrive from other far corners of the globe. Called Bosque Eterno de los Ninos(Children's Eternal Forest), it is the first international children's rain forest in the world, a rain forest being saved by and for children, for the planet itself, for now and for tomorrow. 1, record 40, English, - Children%26rsquo%3Bs%20Tropical%20Forests

... hand held weather stations take about every weather factor into consideration. ... Very sophisticated ones not only measure weather conditions every second but make E.T. or throttle stop predictions every 4 seconds. A sophisticated drag racing weather station will allow you to store data on as many as 256 previous runs and performs an analysis to give you a prediction based on the weather conditions instantly. It can keep and use separate databases for separate vehicles, tracks, or classes. Some of the really sophisticated stations have a prediction deviation function [which] gives a reliability value of the prediction. It gives you a margin of error based on the information in the database that you chose. The Kestrel line of wind meters or anemometers... in less than 60 seconds, provide the answer to the major spraying season question that haunts producers each morning :"How windy is it?" The Kestrel 1000... gives a fast answer to wind speed average and gusts.... the model 2000 will add temperature and for those really cold days on the sprayer, add wind chill to that list. The 3000 adds humidity, dew point and heat stress index.... But for an all out weather station you can hold in the palm of your hand, the Kestrel 4000 provides all of this, in addition to wet bulb, altitude, air density and barometric pressure. Most importantly, 250 of these readings can be recorded in the device's memory and later transferred to the farm computer.... Michael Naughton of Nielsen Keller-man said the company released the 1000 in 1999 with the intention of it being a tool for sailors and outdoor sports and weather enthusiasts. "Farmers are turning out to be a really big part of our business. The 4000 is really popular with them. We were surprised by the demand for little hand-held weather stations, "he said. 2, record 42, English, - hand%20held%20weather%20station

You may also consider a slaved HSI. Slaving automatically compensates for gyro heading errors and keeps your HSI in agreement with your compass. By tradition, grain ships have been loaded using shipping spouts hung from high galleries on the jetty. Thus, the larger or broader the ship's beam, the higher the gallery. With the advent of even larger bulk carriers, it is becoming fashionable to load grain ships using jetty-mounted ship-loaders with loading booms reaching out over the ship's hold. ... attaching commercial sockets of forged steel to wire rope ends ... The wire rope is seized at the end and another seizing is applied at a distance from the end equal to the length of the basket of the socket ... For large ropes, the seizing should be several inches long. The end seizing is now removed and the strands are separated so that the fiber core can be cut back to the next siezing. The individual wires are then untwisted and "broomed out" and for the distance they are to be inserted in the socket are carefully cleaned with benzine, naphtha, or unleaded gasoline. 2, record 52, English, - broom%20out

There are three types of zinced endings : A cone is formed from molten zinc poured into a mold in which a frayed rope end has been inserted; sometimes a ferrule is used as mold and stays on after pouring the zinc; or sockets are used instead of the ferrule. An open socket has ears to hold a pin and cotter. A closed socket has a loop or "bail. "Both are heavy forgings and find widespread use. All three zinced on endings need a good deal of preparation. The rope's end must be broomed out, cleaned with acid and straightened. Special endings : such as thimbles, clips, and clamps are quicker and easier to apply than a zinc socket, but efficiency is not as high as with other attachments. 3, record 52, English, - broom%20out

It is natural enough(...) that some governments and private persons should(...) want to take out gold from the United States rather than continue to hold dollar currency or dollar IOUs. Suppose you blindfold a man and ask him to hold out his hand, palm up. Now place a weight on his palm; he will certainly notice it. As you add more units of weight, he notices their addition too. But after his palm is carrying a good deal of weight, you can add just as big a weight as you did in the beginning, and yet this time he will reply that he is not conscious of any addition. In other words, the greater the total weight he is already carrying, the less will be the effect of an extra or marginal unit of weight. 1, record 69, English, - marginal%20unit
