Fluke anchors. These anchors have flukes that are positioned wide apart. They have a lower weight than other anchors... They have a strong holding power due to their teeth, or ’’flukes, ’’that are designed to dig into the bottom, helped by their long anchor shank. … Fluked anchors are particularly suitable for sandy, soft seabed.

OBS

Fluke anchors include the Britany, Danforth, Fortress, Fob and Guardian.

V Deployment. Deploying two anchors in a V shape off the bow offers excellent extra holding power when the pull is from an expected direction. … To set up a V deployment, set your first anchor the way you would normally. For the second anchor, you’re aiming for an angle between the rodes of 45° to 90°.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Jib-Type Hoisting Apparatus
CONT

Hand hoists are chain operated. There are four types : spur geared, worm geared, differential, and pull-lift or lever. The last, with its lever for operation and its ratchet for holding, is the simplest and most economical. However, since the operating lever is located on the anchor end of the hoist, it is not as convenient for vertical lifting as it is for horizontal pulling.

OBS

pull-lift hoist; lever-operated hoist; ratchet hoist: terms officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee (New Brunswick).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Appareils de levage à bras
CONT

Palans à bras. Ils sont de plusieurs sortes. [...]

Foul is an often used nautical term generally meaning entangled or impeded. An anchor tangled in line or cable is said to be a foul anchor. A foul berth is caused by another vessel anchoring too close wherein the risk of collision exists. A foul bottom offers poor holding for anchors.

The holding power shall be considered as the load which causes 0. 5 mm movement of one end of the anchor along the rail base when the test anchor is loaded parallel to the rail base.(SPEC 12-8, 8. 2).

Resin Anchored Bolts.(...) It has been found that the use of resins will increase significantly the holding ability of expansion anchors. Two types of resin packages are available. In one type, the resin and catalyst are at opposite ends of a plastic envelope separated by a clip. The clip is removed and the package kneaded to mix the components. Then the package is thrust up the hole and a bolt with a mechanical anchor is inserted; in tightening the package will burst and the resin will ooze around the anchor. The other type is a glass capsule where resin and quartz granulars are contained in an outer glass capsule and the catalyst is in an inner tube.(...) Bolt ends need no threading for this anchorage.

  • resin anchored roof bolt

CONT
