A computerized database of aerial survey results, this information holding is summarized by sector within each country using dBASE III Plus. Sector surveys were numbered consecutively(1 to 763) in a clockwise fashion by country around the continent, and their lengths calculated from aeronautical charts(scale 1 : 1, 000, 000). Records for each survey sector contain species counts, sector lengths, and "eco-unit" designation which defines a geographical entity of broadly similar habitat. Principle habitats in each survey sector are described and classified in intertidal, near-shore and inland zones(where appropriate). For regional analyses, eco-units are grouped into three main regions : North Coast, Atlantic Coast and Pacific Coast. Cette base de données informatisée des résultats des relevés aériens est organisée par pays et par secteur à l'intérieur de chaque pays; elle utilise le logiciel dBASE III Plus. Les secteurs étudiés ont été numérotés consécutivement (de 1 à 763) dans le sens horaire des pays du continent, et leur longueur a été calculée à l'aide de cartes aéronautiques (échelle de 1/1 000 000). Les données recueillies pour chaque secteur comprennent les dénombrements par espèce, la longueur du secteur et la désignation de l'unité écologique qui définit une entité géographique représentant un habitat à peu près similaire. Les habitats principaux de chaque secteur de relevé sont décrits et classés en zones intertidale, littorale et terrestre (le cas échéant). Aux fins des analyses régionales, les unités écologiques sont regroupées en trois régions principales : côte nord, côte de l'Atlantique et côte du Pacifique.
