The central wood furnace is a third alternative to conventional oil, gas or electric heating. Unlike the wood stove, it is a device designed to take on the larger fraction of the home heat load, although a back-up source-for example, an electric plenum heater-will generally be added on... recently developed furnaces use wood chips or pellets rather than firewood, to allow for a much easier distribution and loading of the fuel. 2, record 2, English, - central%20wood%20furnace

Many Canadian homes, especially older ones, are heated by oil furnaces. The preference for, petroleum-based fuel oil for home heating reached its peak in the early 1970s. From then until the early 1980s we have witnessed a change, with people switching to natural gas, electricity and wood. 1, record 3, English, - oil%20furnace

2, record 3, French, - appareil%20de%20chauffage%20au%20mazout

Research is under way to develop an automatic or self-fueling wood furnace. This system would burn either wood chips, sawdust or densified wood pellets of uniform size. Similar to automatic coal-burning systems, these automatic wood furnaces would draw wood fuel from a storage bin through a motorized fuel auger. A control system would adjust the amount of fuel according to the heating demands of the home. It would require little operating maintenance beyond periodic ash removal and filling of the fuel storage bin. 1, record 4, English, - automatic%20wood%20furnace

There are a number of performance factors that determine how well your heating system is able to supply heat to your home. For all non-electric heating systems there are two basic approaches to defining efficient performance. Both measure the percentage of heat available in a fuel that is actually delivered as heat to the house. Steady state efficiency is a performance factor that is easily measured over a short period of time. It indicates the performance of a system that has been running long enough to allow all furnace components to reach their normal operating temperatures...
