En ce qui concerne l'alphabétisation familiale, l'évaluation des pratiques d'alphabétisation à domicile s'est limitée aux déclarations et à la mémoire des répondants. Bien que les résultats obtenus par de telles techniques puissent être surestimés, la majorité des parents semblent jouer un rôle actif dans la préparation de leurs enfants à l'école et ont déclaré qu'ils lisent à leurs enfants au moins quelques fois par semaine.
