The Centre for Research and Education on Women and Work was established at Carleton University, School of Business, in 1992 to facilitate both research and education on women and work. The Centre supports research on the issues that women face in the workplace and offers a Management Development Program for Women. The Centre is guided by an Advisory Board and supported by a full-time administrator. This program involved professionally supervised volunteers delivering a home visiting program on a state-wide basis. Mothers and children requiring more intensive support were made a priority. Among the results was a decrease in child abuse of 50%, reduction of violent behaviour in children and adolescents, lower school failure rates, and fewer children coming into care.
