A innovative approach to seniors’ housing that originated in Australia, the so-called "granny flat" is a detached housing unit which can be placed in the yard of an existing family home. Intended solely for occupancy by an elderly parent or parents of the owner of the main house and property, the self-contained units are designed to be temporary and portable, so that they can be removed and relocated when no longer required.
