By using adaptive filters a compromise exists between the radiometric enhancement in the homogeneous areas and the preservation of the spatial resolution within the heterogeneous areas(i. e., the textural area or edges). Depending on the local heterogeneity degree of the target, pixels are weighted with a value ranging from the local mean to the raw intensity values.

The gene physical mapping aims at locating nucleotidic sequences on combed DNA. The sequences hybridize on the corresponding target sequences on the combed DNA, and are further on detected using fluorescent antibodies. Their relative position can be determined very precisely, since the stretching of combed DNA is homogeneous all over the surface.

Ces séquences s'hybrident sur la partie de séquence correspondante de l'ADN peigné, et sont repérées grâce à la fluorescence que leur confèrent des marqueurs.
