The distribution of fishing mortality over the age (or length) composition of the fish population[,] determined by the type of fishing gear, area and seasonal distribution of fishing, and the growth and migration of the fish. 2, record 1, English, - exploitation%20pattern
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The exploitation pattern can be changed by :(1) modifications to the fishing gear characteristics, for example, increasing mesh or hook size;(2) modification of the mix of [gear] in a multigear fishery, for example introducing a new gear type aiming at a particular age range;(3) modification of the proportion of the removals taken by each gear in a multi gear fishery;([4]) change in fishing practice such as shift in area or time period fished(possibly as a result of a regulation such as a closed area or season). 2, record 1, English, - exploitation%20pattern

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 1, French, - mode%20d%27exploitation

[A tuna] handline is a fishing gear composed of a single vertical line with one barbed hook at the distal point. [The line] must be strong enough to hold the fish and withstand the combined force of its weight, swimming power and determination to escape. Handlines can be set and hauled either manually or by [a] mechanized reel. It is operated by simply dropping the baited hook into the level of the sea where tuna are found abundant. 1, record 2, English, - mechanized%20reel

2, record 2, French, - moulinet%20m%C3%A9canis%C3%A9

Pelagic longline gear is composed of a long length of mainline deployed across ocean attached to numerous baited "branchlines" that are suspended in the water column between regularly spaced floats. Each branchline connects the mainline to a single, baited hook with anywhere from 4 to 30 or more branchlines(baited hooks) set between floats. The floats may be attached directly to the mainline for a shallower set or connected to "floatlines" to target deeper-dwelling species. Each section of mainline with its branchlines between two adjacent floats is defined as a "basket" of gear as traditional style "basket gear" was composed of mainline sections that were stored in baskets when not in use. 3, record 3, English, - pelagic%20longline

[Type of fishing in which the] fishing gear consists of a bamboo pole, to which is attached a line having a feather or other lure with a barbless hook; alternatively bait may be used. In some cases, two men using poles connected to a common line and hook may be required for large fish. The fisherman heaves on his pole to fling the fish behind him on to the deck; as the hook is barbless the fish is disengaged automatically as the line tightens and slides forward along the sloping deck. 3, record 8, English, - pole%20and%20line%20fishing
