A type of off-road race using bicycles that resemble road bikes.

Cyclocross courses are very rough and muddy, and are designed to force the competitors to dismount and run with their bicycles several times per lap.

CONT

Cyclocross has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed cycle racing on a short off road course, riding racing style bikes. Any and every technique is used by the competitors to speed themselves ahead : bunny hopping, shouldering the bike, skidding, even some physical contact.

Qu'est-ce que le cyclo-cross? Des coureurs qui montent et descendent très rapidement de vélo, telle est l'image classique du cyclo-cross. Effectivement, souvent le vélo doit être porté sur l'épaule pour grimper un passage particulièrement raide ou boueux ou lorsqu'un obstacle ne peut être passé en selle. [...] Le vélo ressemble à un vélo de route [...] le cyclo-cross est un sport qui se pratique l'hiver. Terrains boisés, chemins, clairières et montées courtes mais très raides sont les principales composantes de ces circuits qui mesurent normalement de 2,5 à 3 km.
