The cosmic microwave background displays a uniformity of temperature, varying by just one part in a hundred thousand. This indicates that all regions have been in contact with one another some time in the past. However, when traced back to the big bang using Einstein's equations, these regions appear to have always been separated – outside of one another's past causal horizons, being more than a million light-years apart when the universe was only 400, 000 years old. In a scientific context the term nanometrology can be interpreted quite broadly and has traditionally been used to describe approaches used in manufacturing technology, where very precise measurements are the foundations of the engineering industry. In recent years nanometrology has broadened its horizons and it now appears to encompass measurement of species or events on a nano-scale, which is a key part of modern detection science. These could be the measurement of distances up to 100 nm, such as features on a surface, or analysis of the interaction of two biological molecules. In terms of the analysis of events on a nano-scale this could be the interaction of two molecules or biomolecules leading to a significant outcome. 4, record 18, English, - nanometrology

Parent material, in soil science, means the underlying geological material(generally bedrock or a superficial or drift deposit) in which soil horizons form. Soils typically get a great deal of structure and minerals from their parent material. Parent materials are made up of consolidated or unconsolidated mineral material that has undergone some degree of physical or chemical weathering.... Parent material is classified by its last means of transport. So material that was transported to a location by glacier, then deposited elsewhere by streams, that material is classified as stream transported parent material, or fluvial parent material. Glacial till refers to material dragged with a moving ice sheet. Because it is not transported with liquid water, the material is not sorted by size. 3, record 29, English, - parent%20material

The rock from which soil is formed is called parent material. The main types are: eolian, glacial till, glacial outwash, alluvium, lacustrine parent material and residual parent material, or bedrock. Pedologist uses the following formula for understanding soil formation: s = f (cl, o, r, p, t, ...) where s - soil properties; cl - regional climate; o - potential biota, r - topography; p - parent material; t - time; ... - additional variables. 4, record 29, English, - parent%20material

5, record 29, French, - mat%C3%A9riau%20parental

In many regions of the world, older rocks are superimposed on top of younger rocks, just the opposite from what is expected. The usual explanation is that the layers of older rocks were thrust parallel to the bedding planes over the top of the layers of younger rock, sometimes for hundreds of miles. So numerous are these instances of inverted strata that a new branch of geology called "thin-skinned tectonics" is arising to handle them. 4, record 38, English, - thin%2Dskinned%20tectonics

The Government of Canada is helping young Canadians gain the work experience they need to get a good job. Under the Youth Employment Strategy, the federal government is building partnerships with the private sector to help Canada's young people bridge the gap between education and employment. The strategy includes funds for the creation of new youth employment opportunities. A crucial part of this strategy is the Science Horizons program, designed to help young people gain valuable work experience in the scientific and technological fields that are driving the new economy. A number of science-based federal departments are participating in the program, which funds science and technology internships. 2, record 92, English, - Science%20Horizons
