Computer simulation of single-well steam assisted gravity drainage(SW-SAGD).... Steam assisted gravity drainage(SAGD) is an effective method of producing heavy oil and bitumen. In a typical SAGD approach, steam is injected into a horizontal well located directly above a horizontal producer. A steam chamber grows around the injection well and helps displace heated oil toward the production well. Single-well(SW) SAGD attempts to create a similar process using only one horizontal well. This may include steam injection from the toe of the horizontal well with production at the heel. Obvious advantages of SW-SAGD include cost savings and utility in relatively thin reservoirs. However, the process is technically challenging. To improve early-time response of SW-SAGD, it is necessary to heat the nearwellbore area to reduce oil viscosity and allow gravity drainage to take place.

L'huile et l'eau liquide s'écoulent le long de la chambre de vapeur sous l'action de la gravité vers le puits horizontal inférieur. Afin de limiter le nombre de puits, des ingénieurs ont proposé de réaliser l'injection de vapeur et la production de l'huile réchauffée et de l'eau due à la condensation de la vapeur, dans un unique puits horizontal. Cette technique, à l'inverse de celle à injection cyclique, permet d'atteindre de façon progressive un taux de récupération élevé. Parmi ces technologies, on pourra distinguer celle de l'entraînement à la vapeur par zone annulaire chauffée («Heated Annulus Steam Drive») et celle de drainage gravitaire renforcé par la vapeur («Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage»). La deuxième (SAGD) commence à faire ses preuves aujourd'hui. Elle permet, par l'utilisation de puits horizontaux multidrains d'améliorer considérablement la productivité et le taux de récupération des huiles en place, tout en minimisant l'utilisation de vapeur.

Wascana Energy Inc. and Alberta Research Council invite you to attend an information session to describe the Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding(TTHW) process.... Background With the advent of horizontal wells in Improved Oil Recovery of heavy oils, a change is taking place in the approach to improved recovery of oil. Currently, there is a move from displacing oil in a flood pattern from injector to producers over long distances(of the order of hundreds of meters) to short-distance oil displacement(SDOD) processes(typically over a few meters). Due to the high viscosity of heavy oil, the displacement to producers located long distance away tends to make waterflooding inappropriate. Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage, Vapor Extraction and Toe-To-Heel Displacement Processes(TTHDP) belong to the SDOD processes. TTHDP can be applied as a non-thermal recovery technology, such as Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding or as a thermal technology such as Toe-To-Heel Steamflooding and Toe-To-Heel Air Injection. More than 17 laboratory tests of Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding(TTHW) showed that this process will provide good results for lighter heavy oil reservoirs(with viscosity less than 1200 mPas). Hele Shaw model tests indicated ultimate recovery factors substantially higher for the TTHW, when compared to conventional waterflooding using vertical wells.

Une interrogation subsiste concernant la percée probable de l'air injecté dans ce puits horizontal qui aurait pour résultat de provoquer un arrêt du front de combustion. Two new tracking functions, BeaconTrac and OBS-Trac, expand tracking capabilities of the new Bendix RDR-1400 digital colour weather radar, according to the company.(...) BeaconTrac generates an inbound course to a discrete beacon. This course line is generated from the beacon display and can be rotated 360 degrees around the beacon with the HSI(Horizontal Situation Indicator) course selector. BeaconTrac will operate up to 80 nmi(about 150 km). Using the HSI course selector to position the BeaconTrac line, the pilot can readily determine an intercept or approach path. Once on BeaconTrac and heading inbound, the RDR-1400 displays left/right deviation to the beacon.

Dans le premier de ces modes [Beacon-Trac] qui est utilisable sur des distances allant jusqu'à 80 milles marins (150 km environ), l'image sur l'écran est complétée par une ligne représentant la route à suivre pour arriver à la verticale d'une balise radar, ligne qu'il est possible de faire tourner autour de la position de la station au moyen du sélecteur de route de l'indicateur de situation horizontale. Après avoir orienté cet axe de façon appropriée, le pilote peut facilement déterminer une trajectoire d'interception ou d'approche; il lui suffit alors de mettre le cap sur la station et de corriger éventuellement celui-ci en suivant les indications d'écart gauche/droite sur l'écran.
