HORIZONTAL CABLE [7 records]

Record 1 2025-05-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Hoisting and Lifting
  • Derricks (Construction Sites)
DEF

A derrick crane with the top of the mast held by means of guy ropes.

CONT

The guy derrick is made up of a boom and a mast that are connected at the top by a cable which allows the boom to be raised or lowered. The mast, which is longer than the boom, is held firmly in a vertical position by guys, although the derrick, as a whole, may rotate through a horizontal angle of 360 degrees. The load is applied to the boom by means of another cable, which may be used to raise or lower the load without moving the boom in a vertical plane. This type [of derrick] is used in the erection of large, steel building frames.

OBS

guy derrick crane: standardized by the British Standards Institution.

OBS

guy-derrick crane: term and definition standardized by ISO.

DEF

Improved methods of using explosives have... been developed. In the marine version one is called Aquaseis. This employs detonating cord in lengths of 100 ft or so. The bubble effect is very much reduced, and as the cord is strung out horizontally in the direction of the recording cable, there is cancellation of noise in the horizontal direction and reinforcement in the direction of the reflections.

Aquaseis™: A trademark of YMG.

To perform the cable crossover, begin by grasping one cable, and then carefully walking across the machine to grasp the opposite cable. You should set yourself in the middle of the machine, and ensure that the cables are now meeting at the midline of your body, or with your hands together... To effectively isolate your pectorals(pec minor and upper fibers of pec major) you must set your upper body at an angle of approximately 70-90 degrees with the ground. Begin by allowing your arms to move out and lower the weight. Only lower the weight to a point where your upper arm is horizontal to the ground... Once you have reached this point, return to the starting position with your hands meeting at the midline of the body.

Wild Country Flexible Friends : The ultimate pro for horizontal placements, pockets and small cracks. The 5 mm flexible stainless steel cable stem bends over edges.

OBS

Many active camming chocks have flexible cable stems, rather than solid stems. Flexible stems reduce leveraging problems. They also allow you to place your active cam into a horizontal crack without worrying that the stem will break when loaded over the crack's edge... flexible stems are weaker than solid stems.
